While Turkey, with the approval of the imperialist powers, led by the
USA, obtains its Syrian protectorate and Israel consolidates its
positions in the South of Syria by destroying the Syrian military
potential, in the North of the country it is the democratic
confederalist experience in Rojava that is threatened by the new Turkish
aggression, directly with its armed forces or with the jihadist militias
of the so-called Syrian National Army. The Kurdish people, who gave so
much in the bloody war that led to the defeat of ISIS, are betrayed once
again: their allies, false protectors and admirers of yesterday, today
turn the other way and secretly give carte blanche to the Erdogan
regime. They fight in Rojava, they resist, and in the meantime they
maintain a political opening with the new regime in Damascus by
insisting on the proposal of a federal society in which Northern Syria
is guaranteed autonomy and the conquests acquired. But we know how
important it is to expand the international solidarity movement to break
the silence on the Turkish war of aggression and materially support the
people of Rojava.
Let us make our own the statement of the Italian YPG fighters, a
heartfelt appeal to act once again with Rojava in our hearts, so that
the revolution can continue and strengthen.
Statement of the Italian YPG fighters on the situation in Syria.
"The confederal revolution is under attack. The obscurantist forces have
occupied and plundered Sheeba and Manbij, committing crimes against
humanity. Ecological and cooperative work, women's liberation, the
coexistence of lifestyles and the criticism of the colonial mentality
have crossed those lands in these twelve years. What is at stake, if the
invasion of the Autonomous Administration continues, if Kobane is
attacked? The defense of what Ivana Hoffmann, Anna Campbell and Lorenzo
Orsetti have affirmed and defended. Of what tens of thousands of other
martyrs, mutilated and prisoners have affirmed and defended. The
resistance of the Women's Protection Units in Tishrin, of the Military
Council in Manbij in the past weeks will forever remain wonderful
paradigms of dedication and courage.
And us? How do we deal with this legacy?
The Turkish and Israeli forces are trying to break the possibility of
democratic change in Syria. Both fear the revolution, Kurdish or Arab,
the possibility of the ghost that unites different demands for
decolonial liberation and new forms of internationalism. The popular
revolution and the women's revolution are subjected to this attack.
Italy and Europe are complicit in the sell-off of Syrian society as they
are complicit in the war of annihilation waged by Israel in Palestine.
The fight for Kobane and the fight for Palestine must become the same
thing. There is no free Palestine without freedom in Syria and
Kurdistan. There is no free Syria without freedom in Palestine. There is
no freedom in the Middle East without freedom in Kurdistan.
While Kobane is fortified, the society of the spectacle tries to
remember its name. There is no way to live with dignity and forget the
partisan history of our people and others. The partisan memory dies if
we turn our backs on Kobane. Our stories become shame if we forget
Kobane. The battle for labor rights and gender rights, against total
institutions, prisons, war; the struggles for the freedom to grow up and
reject fascism, to study and read what each one prefers - everything
dies if we forget Kobane. Every strike, factory or university
occupation, day of solitary resistance or militancy, every beating
suffered by the police, day of detention or special surveillance:
everything loses sense and meaning if we do not raise our voice for Kobane.
Italy is under the cloak of fascism and ignorance. Kobane unites and
reminds us that victories are always possible, that drops can become a
storm. It is not a journalistic postcard. It is not a fairy tale
packaged by the liberal narrative. It is not a background that can be
manipulated by Islamophobia. Kobane is Mesopotamian, working-class,
feminine, internationalist and Muslim. Kobane is the socialism of the
21st century, written not in books but in the blood of martyrs. It is
still an imperfect revolution to be defended and loved like all the past
ones, which presented itself in an era in which it was not invited.
Defending the confederal revolution is a duty.
