WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE FRANCE - news journal UPDATE - (en) France, UCL Press Release: Solidarity with Georges Ibrahim Abdallah and the Palestine Vaincra collective (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

The State is relentless in its attacks on our comrades, let's stand

together! ---- The State's determination to silence all support for the
Palestinian people is stronger than ever. On Thursday, February 20, two
pieces of news confirmed this, one after the other. The sentencing
chamber, which was to rule on the release of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah,
postponed the final decision until June 19, and the Council of State
confirmed the dissolution of the Palestine Vaincra collective. Two
odious decisions, made on absurd grounds. In the face of repression,
let's stand together! ---- While considering that the conditions for the
release of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah were met, the sentencing chamber
dared to add that it could not be granted, and decided "to adjourn the
decision in order to allow the convicted person to justify within this
period a substantial effort to compensate the civil parties", namely the
United States! The continued detention of our comrade, in prison since
1984 and eligible for release since 1999, is a state scandal. Only the
servility of the French state to US imperialism explains his continued
imprisonment: in 2012, it was the pressure of the then Minister of
Foreign Affairs Hillary Clinton that prevented his release in extremis.
And it is Georges Ibrahim Abdallah who should now pay the United States!

Faced with this disgusting injunction, which makes imperialism appear as
the victim of harm caused by those who resist it, let us recall the
words of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah himself, at his hearing in 1987: "That
an Arab fighter be judged by a special court in the West, nothing more
normal. That he be treated as a criminal and a wrongdoer, nothing really
new. But that the Yankee criminal, executioner of all the disinherited
of the Earth, is also the representative of the so-called victims before
you, there is good reason then to abstain from any comment on the nature
of your court as well as on the task assigned to it." What then can be
said about the task assigned to the Council of State, which announced
the dissolution of the Palestine Vaincra collective? The reasons given
are absurd. The collective is not dissolved by virtue of what it said,
or what it did, since the Council of State recognizes that its remarks
do not exceed freedom of expression. It is dissolved by virtue of... the
comments under its publications on social networks! In this respect,
should La République En Marche be dissolved, whose publications in
support of the genocidal State of Israel release slews of racist
comments? The Palestine Vaincra collective is carrying out important
work in solidarity with the Palestinian people, in the fight against the
barbarity of the Zionist occupation, and is leading campaigns to boycott
the State of Israel. This is unbearable to the French State, and this is
the real reason for its dissolution.

The coincidence of dates between these two events recalls the violence
of the current wave of repression, and testifies to the fascisation of
the French State.

The dissolution of the Palestine Vaincra collective is just another
episode in the repression of voices of solidarity with the Palestinian
people who have been bombed, starved, tortured, and martyred by a brutal
occupation. An episode that adds to the gag orders filed against our
comrades Anasse Kazib, Mathilde Panot, Rima Hassan, Ritchy Thibault,
Timothée Esprit, and Jean-Paul Delescaut, political and trade union
activists guilty of internationalist solidarity. An episode that adds to
the harassment committed by the Zionist far-right against supporters of
Palestine, with total impunity: the weakness of the reactions to the
massive harassment suffered by Rima Hassan bears witness to this. An
episode that is finally part of a wave of Islamophobic repression: the
dissolution of an association on the grounds of comments under its
publications on social networks is a possibility given the so-called
"anti-separatism" law.

The continued detention of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah reminds us that when
it comes to anti-imperialist political prisoners, the State never
hesitates to circumvent its own laws and trample on the most fundamental
human rights. The court is now hiding its cowardice under what
Jean-Louis Chalanset, Georges Abdallah's lawyer, rightly called "legal
pettiness". Because when faced with those who resist imperialism, the
French State is ready for any pettiness: the Kanak political prisoners,
locked up tens of thousands of kilometers from home in mainland France
for having resisted the colonial order, are experiencing this. Among
them, Christian Tein, spokesperson for the CCAT, remains imprisoned in
mainland France despite the court's decision invalidating the reasons
given by the State.

We call to join and strengthen the campaign for the release of Georges
Ibrahim Abdallah throughout France and around the world, and to multiply
solidarity actions until June 19. We express our total solidarity with
the Palestine Vaincra collective. We call for solidarity actions with
this collective, and to continue the mobilization of solidarity with
Palestine. Faced with the relentlessness against the anti-colonialist
resistance, faced with the current wave of repression, we cannot afford
resignation, division, passivity, cowardice, half-measures and lukewarm
support.

We must not give up our solidarity with the comrades in prison for their
resistance, and show the State that when it touches one of our comrades,
it will find us all in its path.

We must not allow any intimidation, any gag trial, any dissolution,
against the organizations of the social and anti-imperialist movement to
pass. Faced with the rise of fascism, the time has come for
determination and unity: the urgent thing is to stand together and not
give up. Because, as Georges Ibrahim Abdallah says, "You only need to
stand up for the bourgeoisie to find pretexts to keep you in prison. We
are holding on, comrades! As long as there are comrades and men and
women who are moving and fighting for another future, there are
possibilities for another future than the one we see before our eyes:
massacres, carnage and justifications all day long."
