This year, March 8 is a Saturday. The productive work strike does not
necessarily need to be a success for many of us to be in the streets. On
the other hand, it is an opportunity to massify the domestic and
reproductive work strike, and to fight against the promises of power:
poverty, fascism and war. ---- Of course, women work on Saturdays and
Sundays. In services, commerce, care, often without necessity - let's
avoid going to shops open on Sundays - and with low wages, and
possibilities for struggle that are all the more complicated when the
work collectives are small or non-existent. In service professions, we
take care of others and we make ourselves available for this. These
professions would ultimately be the "natural" extension of the social
role where women are assigned "at home". Because if capitalism benefits
from this wage and social devaluation, men benefit directly from the
domestic tasks carried out mainly by women, but also from the cultural,
emotional and reproductive work (children and care) associated with it.
If the feminist strike of paid work remains a vital objective, this
year, it is the opportunity to promote the strike of domestic work, so
difficult to do since it is about caring for other people. Let's talk
about it, let's organize ourselves in solidarity so that not a single
woman is missing in the streets this Saturday for demonstrations and
general assemblies to build the struggles to come.
The new budget of the new government promises us difficult days, out of
the question for our ministers to take money from the rich or from
companies, and hitting the "beneficiaries" of the RSA or the unemployed
is so easy, if we let them do it. A government of wealthy capitalists
with fascist ideas, at home as elsewhere, which threatens the rights of
trans people, immigrants and exiles. Beyond migration policies, all
racialized people, French or not, are threatened. The European fascist
international has the third largest group in the European Parliament and
feels like it is growing wings carried by the wind from the USA, it met
and congratulated itself in February in Madrid. Regression of (yet
moderate) ecological measures, the rising far-right agricultural union
is stroked in the direction of the reactionary hair: more pesticides,
fewer social and environmental standards. Moral dictates around "one
dad, one mom", ignorance in matters of sexuality and gendered education
are among the tools of the rising reaction. Femonationalism, the
disguise of far-right racism as feminism, must not deceive us.
If Afghanistan is the extreme in terms of crushing women's rights, they
suffer in many other countries, wars linked to the needs of industries
in rich countries ravage the south and women are the first victims.
Congo, Sudan, Haiti, Palestine where the most powerful and cruel
colonialism acts freely, everywhere women are victims of the most
terrible violence. Antilles, Mayotte, Comoros... French colonialism
brings poverty and mistreatment to women wherever it goes.
We must build feminist fronts of struggle but also anti-capitalist,
anti-fascist and anti-imperialist. The creation of collective spaces of
struggle, self-organization and international solidarity are our best
weapons.
