WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE BELGIUM BRUSSELS - news journal UPDATE - (en) France, OCL CA #348 - Editorial: But apart from that, everything is going very well (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

The last few months have been marked by extremely heavy and violent

international news. The number of armed conflicts in the world continues
to grow, with the war in Gaza and the one in Ukraine at the forefront of
the media and attention. Others, less mediatized, have taken a new turn,
such as in Sudan, or more particularly in Darfur where the war between
the armed forces of Khartoum and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a
paramilitary group formerly a partner of the State, is turning into a
civil war and the outcome seems completely out of control. As in every
armed conflict, it is once again the civilians who pay the heaviest
price. We also discuss in this issue, the situation of the Kurds in
northern Syria. The fall of the regime of Bashar El Hassad has brought a
wind of optimism among many Syrians. Will they succeed in sweeping away
all attempts at the return of a new authoritarian central power? What
about Syrian Kurdistan? Where does this autonomous region fit into the
new regional geopolitical chessboard? What are the consequences of the
fall of the Al Assad clan for the Kurds?
The news in France is also fraught with uncertainty, starting with its
colonies... In Kanaky, the situation remains very explosive, and several
CCAT activists have been imprisoned since June in metropolitan jails
awaiting trial... Repression in Martinique is not far behind, with the
judicial arm of the State continuing to fall heavily on activists who
seek to challenge France's control over these territories. Finally, in
Mayotte, post-cyclone, the State plans to increase the number of
gendarmes and continues to heavily repress immigration from the Comoros.
These three examples are proof that the emancipation of peoples is not
an empty phrase and that it has even more meaning in the "overseas"
territories where the French State imposes its vision of a capitalist
society against the resistance of local populations.
Closer to home, while Bayrou seeks to lamentably justify his past
mistakes and to ruin our future, on our side, it is a little difficult
to see exciting prospects in terms of struggles. Not many struggles to
get our teeth into. At best defensive, the struggles remain confined to
the closed circle of businesses. To the point that, seen from the
outside, it is often difficult to be aware of them. And yet, there would
be plenty to do given the difficult period, from all points of view,
that we are currently experiencing.
We can also see this in the agricultural sector. After major sequences
of mobilizations in the agricultural world in recent months, the results
of the elections to the chambers of agriculture were awaited. A historic
breakthrough of the Rural Coordination in some regions is notable. The
FNSEA is losing a little ground, but not enough to weaken it. The
agricultural world in France has not finished serving capitalism, and
seeing its farmers die, while poisoning the populations and the
environment more and more.
Faced with this rather gloomy picture, it is difficult to find some
glimmers of hope. And yet, there are new initiatives here and there. For
example, we present to you the rather pleasant story of this small
village in the Meuse, which decided that the management of municipal
life would be done in citizens' assemblies. It is not a revolution, but
in this complicated period for collective struggles, where the
management of individual problems takes up more space than common
problems, this kind of successful initiative gives us back our smile and
also a little hope.
