STATE, CITY HALL ACCOMPLICE ---- Last night, a few hours after thepublication of the eviction order for the Gaîté Lyrique, we gathered en
masse. All night long, hundreds of people mobilized in resistance
alongside the Belleville Park Youth Collective, demanding shelter for
all occupants. ---- Nothing in this operation was carried out with
respect for the law or the people present. Less than 24 hours passed
between the publication of the order and the start of the eviction. The
operation was supposed to begin at 6:00 a.m., but the police charged us
at 5:40 a.m. After this initial charge, we waited for hours in the cold,
trapped, without being able to treat the injured. We were then gassed,
clubbed, arbitrarily arrested, and chased through the streets and metro
entrances.
Today, we experienced the full deployment of racism amidst the
indifference of the largest French city hall, the so-called left-wing:
* racism from a government that deployed a quasi-military force to
evacuate young people who had already left the occupied building;
* racism from the media and the fascists who harassed and provoked us
every day;
* racism from the police, who separated the "community workers" from the
"migrants" to carry out identity checks, and tracked and arrested us
even in the adjacent cafes;
* racism from a system that refuses to integrate us when we simply ask
to live, study, work, and be considered equal.
Over the past year, we've witnessed the cowardice of Paris City Hall:
while we occupied the Maison des Métallos to demand shelter, the City
Hall said we should stop occupying their buildings and engage in a real
power struggle with the state. Over the past three months at La Gaité,
we've raised awareness of our struggle and strengthened our solidarity
network. We gave Paris City Hall the opportunity to fight alongside us
for our rights. They didn't, and worse still: this morning, Ms. Hidalgo
preferred to speak on the France Inter morning show, stating that "at
this stage, it's what had to be done," referring to the brutal eviction
without a solution we had just experienced. The Mayor of Paris lied live
on air when he claimed there were accommodation options in Paris. This
is false: only one bus was sent, heading to Rouen, for a period of three
weeks. Shameful!
Tonight, everyone is wondering where we're going to sleep, the 450 young
people who were evicted, because even on the streets, we're being hunted
down, unable to move freely, much less pitch a tent. Dozens of people
are injured, everyone is traumatized. In total, there have been around
fifty arrests. Six of our comrades who filed minor appeals were released
with OQTF orders. About ten young people are still in custody at the
18th and 12th arrondissement police stations, facing transfer to a
detention center.
We've never experienced a situation like this in the heart of Paris. Let
everyone be aware of what's at stake in our struggle: it's not just
about the right to housing for unaccompanied minors, but also a battle
against the far-right and its world. We are calling for a rally now in
front of the police stations in the 18th arrondissement (Rue de
l'Évangile) and the 12th arrondissement (Rue Aubrac).
