WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE ITALY - news journal UPDATE - (en) Italy, FDCA, Cantiere #33 - Edito: For a single humanity - Libertarian Alternative/FdCA (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

This issue 33 of "il CANTIERE" contains contributions that refer to
women and March 8,    which is not "International Women's Day"    but a
day of reflection and struggle to reiterate that in this phase of
violent offensive of capital against the subaltern classes, a phase of
wars, destruction of the environment, aggression to the material
conditions of life, profound economic, social and cultural inequalities
of the weakest social strata, it is precisely women who suffer the
heaviest attack. ---- This occurs with devastating synchrony in all
countries, even where women have been protagonists of hard struggles for
the defense of their rights, claiming, and sometimes even obtaining,
great conquests in terms of work and salary, as a premise for an
autonomy that is not only economic, materialized with victories in
matters of divorce and the right to abortion, public health and the
right to education.
All these achievements have strengthened the feminist movement, capable
of opposing the patriarchal model, placing women at the center of the
real movement of emancipation, material and cultural, for a more just
society that abolishes the exploitation of the environment and living
beings. A role that is progressively undermined, given that today
women's emancipation is one of the objectives aimed at by the capitalist
offensive that has simultaneously overwhelmed the entire class
opposition and social resistance movements.
What we are experiencing is in fact the most alarming phase since the
Second World War, full as it is of new scenarios that make it extremely
complex and painful, but it is necessary to escape nostalgia by
acquiring a renewed capacity for analysis.
The rise of financial capital and the broad processes of industrial
delocalization that have made the USA increasingly dependent on imports
are phenomena that deserve a little attention in order to outline some
emerging lines, without claiming to be exhaustive in this context. The
US has implemented import duties in order to offset its trade deficit
with the rest of the world and the first countries affected by these
measures were Mexico, Canada, China and the European Union, which are
the main trading partners of the United States.
This choice had already been undertaken starting in 2016 by Obama,
replicated by Trump's first term and subsequently by Biden, to undergo a
further acceleration today even if this line, which we could define as
protectionist, does not seem to have contained the trade deficit that
the US has with the rest of the world, given that in eight years this
has gone from 460 to the current over 900 billion dollars.
In such a context, the aforementioned industrial delocalization that US
companies have undertaken in order to exploit the tax advantages offered
by numerous countries, including the European Union, has played a
fundamental role. Ireland, for example, has welcomed a good part of the
US pharmaceutical industry, which precisely because of this
delocalization has paid a negative balance with Dublin of over 86
billion dollars in 2024 alone. Therefore, one of the primary objectives
of this second Trump mandate is to start a process of
reindustrialization by recalling the delocalized companies home and
containing inflation in order to counter the decline of the US economy,
thus reinvigorating the imperialism of this country surrounded by new
and insidious powers that, like China, are moving towards control of the
world market. The aggressive line that Trump flaunts arises from an
intertwined series of needs: to hinder the relations between the EU,
Russia and China as they were slowly consolidating before the war in
Ukraine, unloading the economic, social and political costs of the war
itself and of any subsequent rearmament onto European countries. In this
context, the US does not intend to take on NATO expenses, meaning that
if Russia were to attack Europe, the latter would have to rely only on
its own resources. From this choice it follows that each country will
have to increase military spending up to 5% of its GDP: this is what the
USA demands today since they will no longer spend a dollar to defend
Europe. Moreover, the exclusion of the EU from peace negotiations in
Ukraine is based precisely on its evident internal division, a limit
that offers Trump the possibility of dealing as he pleases with the
respective countries, dividing them further also on crucial issues such
as immigration and making unprecedented incursions into its political
and institutional structures, as done with the statements of Elon Musk
and Vice President Vance.
This opens up other considerations, albeit schematic. The US has a
public debt of 36,000 billion dollars, that is 120% of GDP, compared to
80% held by the EU, which, although rising to 90% for the Eurozone, is
still significantly lower than the American one. This 36,000 billion
debt is made up of 28,000 billion in securities and treasuries, that is,
the set of government bonds that the US government issues in order to
refinance its public debt, which are generally considered very safe; in
2025, approximately 5,000 billion will mature, to be refinanced, with an
enormous impact on world GDP that amounts to over 105,000 billion
dollars. The US must therefore convince investors to finance its debt,
hence the aggressiveness of the Trump administration which is reducing
its role as "world policeman" to direct resources no longer to Europe
but to the Pacific area, in order to effectively counter Chinese
imperialism. The European Union is therefore greatly weakened with a
military force that, deprived of American aid, will have to be
refinanced with vertical cuts to welfare that will affect the living
conditions of the lower middle classes.
On the other hand, the president of the European Commission Ursula von
der Leyen makes no secret of what the priorities of this Europe are,
proposing to exempt military spending from the constraints of the
Stability Pact.
If European imperialism wants to survive, it will have to consolidate
the unity that it has so far neglected, and it will have to do so
quickly, in a situation that is more difficult than in the past due to
the evolution of the economic crisis, with a bloody war on its borders,
with a far right in sharp rise and with levels of internal unity that
are not up to the needs, as the recent Paris summit between the European
chancelleries has demonstrated by not even having expressed a unitary
document due to the emergence of divergences on the quality and quantity
of aid to Kiev.
As we have repeatedly stated - but not only us obviously - the phase
opens up to new and alarming scenarios also in consideration of the
important game that is being played around Artificial Intelligence,
better known as AI, which constitutes a further reason for conflict
between the USA and China, with Europe also flaunting a weak and
uncertain line from this point of view.
And it is in this complicated context that Italy, according to ISTAT
data, recorded a decrease in industrial production of 3.5% in 2024, and
this trend was negative for all months of the year; indeed, in December
there was a reduction of 7.1% compared to the same month in 2023. For
2025, Nomisma, an accredited economic research company, calculates an
average growth in household bills of 10% compared to the previous year,
with an obvious impact on the lower-middle social classes. An economic
trend, therefore, that places Italy in an even weaker position than
other European countries. In Italy and in the world there are no
necessary processes of social unity of the subaltern classes to
counteract all these trends, while wars continue in Ukraine as in
Palestine, in Syria and in Lebanon, and in many other countries. Small
and large powers clash everywhere for the control of markets, even
peripheral ones, causing death, destruction and waves of migration that
unload on our coasts tens of thousands of desperate human beings, who
flee from the horrors of wars and unlivable conditions in search of a
better life and who are rejected without any mercy by the imperialist
powers that have caused and cause those bloody conflicts with impunity.
Capitalism has now entered a destructive phase as it is no longer
possible to defend its need to extract profits and their accumulation in
any other way.
"Only the international unity of the proletariat will be able to counter
barbarism by overcoming capitalism to affirm the universal interests of
humanity and the environment that surrounds it".
But if this is the perspective, of which we are aware, our action is
directed beyond the statement in order to bring our contribution to an
anarchist communist society. To proceed in this direction it is
essential to prepare militants capable of bringing an effective
contribution of unity and organization to the concrete realities of
social conflict.
