International Women's Day ---- This week we celebrated International
Women's Day. And although, as the famous protest song goes, "we needbread, but we also need roses", this is certainly not a day of beauty,
spring and smiles, as they are trying to present it in modern Russia.
This is a day of solidarity in the fight for women's rights. And women's
rights are very bad. ---- Not only in Afghanistan, where women should be
neither seen nor heard. Because men apparently consider themselves
animals, unable to control their carnal urges. In those countries where
feminists allegedly won, women's rights are also bad. Moreover, the
women's movement, under the guise of protecting rights, can do the exact
opposite.
As is well known, "if you can't prevent it, lead it!", and the
neo-patriarchy pretended to be a pro-feminist. We have been told that
sexual and reproductive exploitation is a free choice for women. That
viewing gender as a social construct is transphobic. That criticizing
the use of puberty blockers for teenagers is fascism. Look, if Trump
said that two plus two equals four, that would also be fascism? Why is
it considered hate speech to criticize inequality in women's sports,
while death threats against radical feminists are only welcome? Do you
disagree? Do you want to argue? Argue and disagree. Write your
disagreement in the comments. But violence against women is violence
against women.
This year, abolitionists organized their own demonstration in Barcelona,
because talking about the exploitation of women based on their gender is
too radical for feminism, driven by neo-patriarchy. This alternative
demonstration against sexual and reproductive exploitation was also
attended by activists of leftist and anarchist views, for example,
anarcho-syndicalists.
It is no secret that there are anarchists who are sure that if
prostitution is considered "the same kind of work", then this will
greatly facilitate the lives of women who receive money for sex. That
is, they completely reject the social reasons that force women to earn
money this way, or they recognize these reasons, but instead of fighting
them, they fight abolitionists. Allegedly, abolitionists do not
recognize women's right to dispose of their own bodies. In fact,
abolitionists fight pimping and sex buyers, that is, rapists, who do not
recognize a woman's right to dispose of her own body.
And not everyone in our editorial office will support my conclusions
either. But what can you do, women's rights are radical even where it
seems that women have already achieved everything. So, the struggle
continues, including around what and who to fight for when it comes to
women, and even who is considered a woman.
As for accusations of fascism, it would seem that real fascists come to
power here, but it is somehow more difficult to fight them than with
unwanted feminists, isn't it?
A war of the sexes?
By the way, last time I cited a German study that it is mainly young men
who vote for the far-right. And now an investigation has rolled up in
other countries. It is not in my rules to provide links to Meduza, but
this time I will make an exception, since we are talking about an
investigation published in the Kit newsletter.
I quote: "Zoomers want success, and zoomers want justice. Women in
general are more concerned about social injustice, explain the
Glocalities researchers. Girls are more concerned about harassment and
domestic violence, they are more likely to demand equality in the family
and at work. At the same time, guys are much less focused on social life
in general. Their priorities are ambition, income, and social status."
"A 2024 Harvard University study confirms this: if a person and his
family members do not have access to social mobility, these people begin
to believe that they need to compete for resources. This feeds a sense
of hostility in the world, resentment, and envy - including towards
representatives of other genders. This is especially evident in regions
with high unemployment - and among those who consider state institutions
unfair."
Yes, yes, the current audience of the right and far-right are people
who, in theory, should be the audience of the left. Perhaps because the
right promises young guys not equality, but a place at the top, at least
at the expense of women.
But what about the leaders of the far right in Italy, Germany, and
France, you ask? They are women, aren't they? This is precisely the
neo-patriarchal attempt to get women's votes, but using the old system
of hierarchy and power. The far right positions itself as defenders of
the disadvantaged and... women, promising them respect and protection,
but they are ready to share power only with some of the most active
allies. So yes, we are not facing a war of the sexes, and if women and
men do not become allies in the fight against all manifestations of
patriarchy, and fascism is just one of them, then in the end everyone
will lose.
ROC on women
Well, let's look at the conservative turn in Russia: ROC representatives
insist that Women's Day be celebrated on the day of the "myrrh-bearing
women", and this is not March 8. Archpriest Konstantin Kharitonov: "The
Church does not support women, but the holiday itself. The celebration
of this female emancipation, the so-called freedom. March 8 is not
connected with our traditions, our culture, our thousand-year history."
Again, they are trying to impose on women that freedom for us is what is
convenient for men. What do Orthodox priests say about women, who
supposedly treat them with respect: ""A chicken is not a bird - and a
woman is not a person." You, women, should not be offended by this,
because a woman is not a whole, but a part of a whole. A part cannot be
the main one. For example, eyes remain eyes, hands remain hands, legs
remain legs. These parts and other parts of the body cannot be the head.
A woman is a part, not a head, the head is the husband."
Let us recall how the late Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin supported Mufti
Ismail Berdiev, who called for women to undergo circumcision: "I have
known this venerable man for 25 years and I respect him very much,
although sometimes we argued. He spoke about his tradition - sanctified
by centuries and recognized by the majority of women living in this
tradition. Why don't they have the right to it? We, the Orthodox, have
different traditions - but this has never stopped us from respecting the
traditions of neighboring peoples," Chaplin wrote. According to him, UN
officials insist on the abolition of such practices, trying to replace
religious traditions with humanistic ones.
But the priest of the Russian Orthodox Church Andrei Tkachev says that a
boy should be taught to fight and go through an obstacle course. And let
a woman swim in the kitchen.
That is, there is nothing good in patriarchal attitudes for a boy
either, they prepare cannon fodder from him. Or he should be beaten by
stronger boys. It would seem that men need feminism no less than women,
because feminism is not patriarchy, where women oppress everyone instead
of men, but fundamentally different relationships between people, based
on mutual support and respect. But... here comes neopatriarchy, and
women again owe everyone everything: sex, pregnancy and childbirth,
beauty treatments, service, their own safe premises, health, and so on,
and for some reason women should consider these achievements of
feminism. Thank you, but no.
By the way, let me remind you that in the conditions of a train rolling
into the Middle Ages, resistance to war and obscurantism continues in
Russia. And feminists are an active part of this resistance. They can
argue among themselves, and with me too, about what feminism should be,
but we are all working together. Patriarchy, neo-patriarchy, is a system
of oppression that breeds inequality, wars, and toxic leaders like Putin
or Trump.
"Thank God for President Trump"
Trump, by the way, also emphasizes his religiosity in every possible
way. The cabinet meeting began with a prayer that said: "Thank God for
President Trump." And US Secretary of State Marco Rubio appeared live on
Fox News with... a crooked cross on his forehead. It looked terribly
comical, but the adviser wanted to demonstrate that he repented on Ash
Wednesday as a good Catholic.
Now there are versions again that Trump was recruited by Putin when he
came to Russia, when he was still just an odious American rich man. But
I believe that his similarity to Putin and the demand for respect for
the Russian leader lies in the fact that all fascists will simply
understand each other in a brotherly way. Perhaps we are yet to see a
Hitler-Franco-Mussolini triumvirate.
So if you think things are bad, I can tell you that this is just the
beginning. But don't despair, there have been worse times.
Empathy or Barbarism
Last week, Elon Musk, the icon of capitalism lovers, said that "the
fundamental weakness of Western civilization is empathy."
Hannah Arendt, the founder of the theory of totalitarianism, author of
"The Banality of Evil," said that "the loss of empathy is one of the
earliest and most telling signs that a culture is about to slide into
barbarism."
I will give you another quote, which belongs to Gustav McGilbert, an
American psychologist who conducted many interviews with those convicted
at the Nuremberg Trials: "...I was looking for the nature of evil. I
think I came close to defining it: the absence of empathy. This is the
only characteristic that unites all the defendants [at the Nuremberg
Trials]. A genuine inability to sympathize with one's neighbor. Evil, I
think, is the absence of empathy."
So, the forces of good against the forces of evil, perhaps it seems too
simple, like in a children's book, but evil, as we see, is no longer shy
about pretending. And who will you be with?
