| Talia pulled back from death—can we save the next before it’s too late?
Dear friends, A Life Saved on the Highway – And Many More Still in Peril
Animals First Aid, in partnership with Paws of Smederevo, brings you the story of Talia, a dog who came heartbreakingly close to losing her life on the side of a busy Serbian highway. Volunteers spotted her struggling between the speeding lanes, broken and terrified. The first attempt to save her was impossible, but leaving her to die was never an option. Four brave volunteers risked everything, one even suffering injury, to bring her to safety. Talia’s legs were shattered. She endured complex surgery on both broken paws and, against all odds, is now healing. She still needs follow-up care and the removal of stitches, but her gentle spirit shines through. Today she is slowly recovering, thanks to the courage of those who refused to walk away and to the generosity of supporters who helped cover part of her astronomical vet bills. |

| | | | Another Rescue, Another Cry for Help |
|
| Paws of Smederevo did not stop with Talia. Even as they struggled with her expenses, another desperate dog appeared, injured and alone. Once again, they acted. Once again, they chose compassion over despair. But each rescue comes with crushing costs – medicine, surgeries, food, and shelter for the many dogs in their care. These women toil day and night, putting themselves in danger, often going without themselves so the animals can survive. |

| | | | | | Winter is coming to Serbia. Cold winds and biting frost will soon turn the streets into a death trap for strays. Without support, shelters like Paws of Smederevo cannot keep up. Animals will go hungry. The injured will go untreated. Many may not make it. Animals First Aid exists for exactly this reason – to stand by shelters that have nothing but love, courage, and determination. Just as we have done for partners across the world, we must stand with Ana and her volunteers now. They cannot do it alone. |
|
| | | | | | Last time, we barely scraped together enough to cover Talia’s surgery. This time, we must do more. A gift of $50 can help cover a week of food for the dogs. $100 can go toward vet care that saves another life like Talia’s. Every contribution, large or small, is the difference between despair and hope. |
