On September 20th, the FreeAzat Solidarity association is organizing an
international day for the release of Azat Miftakhov, and more generallyfor political prisoners. The Anarchist Federation is joining this
solidarity rally, as it did in 2023. Azat Miftakhov is a talented young
Russian mathematician and anarchist activist, imprisoned since 2019 on
fabricated charges following the use of torture, as denounced by the
ECHR. On August 5th, 2025, Azat appeared before the Court of Cassation,
where his conviction on entirely fabricated charges was upheld. This, of
course, comes as no surprise to us: his imprisonment is part of an open
hunt for anarchists and opponents by the Russian state, which is
repressing opposition to its imperialist and warmongering policies.
The FreeAzat association's next action will take place on September 20,
2025. This will be the anniversary (same month) of Azat's second arrest
and our last rally in front of the embassy, in September 2023.
Azat has become the symbol of an international struggle for the release
of political prisoners.
In Paris, this action on Saturday, September 20, will take place
starting at 2 p.m., a few meters from the Russian Embassy, in Robert
Schuman Square. Musical performances, artistic performances, a reading
of an excerpt from a play about political prisoners, and speeches by
politicians and human rights activists will follow. Reproductions of
paintings related to the themes of imprisonment and freedom will also be
on display (paintings depicting political prisoners and paintings
created in prison by political prisoners).
So, join us this Saturday, September 20th at 2 p.m. with our black flags
at Square Robert Schuman, 41 Avenue du Maréchal Fayolle, Paris!
