After the "ceasefire" and the infamous "Trump plan" adopted by the UN on
November 18th, it is more crucial than ever to keep our eyes on
Palestine. This is not about stopping the genocide, but about its
continuation by other means. 53% of Gaza is now directly under the
control of the occupying army: a fait accompli officially described as
"temporary," but everything indicates that Israel intends to make it
permanent. ---- The "yellow line" marking this occupied territory is
completely fictitious, and its boundaries are blurred, but it has very
real consequences since the occupier systematically murders Palestinians
who approach it. The ceasefire itself has already been violated
repeatedly by the Israeli state, assured of its impunity as it continues
its regular bombing of Gaza.
In the West Bank, the pogrom-like violence perpetrated by settlers, with
the blessing and sometimes the direct participation of the army, has
been particularly intense in recent weeks. The tactic is well-known:
harass Palestinians to force them to flee their land. Meanwhile, tens of
thousands of prisoners remain locked up in colonial prisons under
inhumane conditions: medical neglect, malnutrition, humiliation,
beatings, rape, and daily torture are now well-documented and
demonstrate the establishment of a concentration camp system of mass
torture. Among the Palestinian hostages, Hussam Abu Safyia, whose arrest
last December shocked the world, and more than 80 doctors and hospital
staff are still being tortured. Their only crime: daring to treat and
protect Palestinian lives.
In France, the "ceasefire" serves as a pretext for further normalizing
the genocidal state: thus, despite an initial refusal, an Israeli stand
is indeed present at the Milipol arms fair, on the grounds that the
ceasefire has supposedly changed the situation! Weapons tested on
Palestinian civilians and used in their genocide are therefore being
sold, alongside those used to crush the Sudanese people. The repression
of solidarity activists and even of any critical expression of Israeli
policy is intensifying to mask this disgusting policy. From the
detention of our comrade Omar Alsoumi to the cancellation of a
conference on Palestine at the Collège de France, everything seems
permissible against Palestinians and those who dare to denounce their
destruction.
It is in this context that November 29th, proclaimed the "International
Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People," takes place. This date
marks the tragic anniversary of UN Resolution 181, which on November 29,
1947, proclaimed the "partition plan" for Palestine and the
international legitimization of Zionist colonialism. The borders
proclaimed in this resolution would be trampled during the Nakba, the
ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people planned by Zionist militias
with the blessing of imperialist powers. This date symbolizes the
failure of the UN and international law, which did not prevent ethnic
cleansing and colonization: Resolution 194 of 1949, which mandates the
right of return for Palestinian refugees, has never been respected by
Israel, without this threatening its position at the UN.
So, on November 29th, it will be up to the people to do what
international institutions have never been able or willing to do: put an
end to Israeli colonial aggression and finally impose sanctions on the
Zionist state. An arms embargo, economic and political sanctions against
this genocidal state can only be achieved through a powerful
international mobilization capable of forcing the imperialists to back
down. A powerful international mobilization is essential to uphold the
rights of the Palestinian people. Around the world, November 29th can be
a significant milestone in strengthening this movement. Long live the
struggle of the Palestinian people! Long live international solidarity!
Let's join all the rallies taking place on November 29th, in Paris and
throughout the world!
