Today, 52 years after the November uprising, the rulers are still trying
to erase the imprints of entire decades of harsh and bloody social and
class struggles, they are anxiously attempting to close the cycle of
constant rebellion that the uprising opened in the occupied Polytechnic
University in 1973. It is more obvious than ever that the Polytechnic
University uprising was not the end but the beginning of a long series
of struggles, mobilizations, conflicts and uprisings of the most radical
sections of society, as its content and precepts do not belong to the
past, as the initiators of the party slogan: EAM ELAS POLYTECHNIC
UNIVERSITY would have liked and propagated. On the contrary, it belongs
to the future as it inaugurated a long series of mobilizations,
uprisings and conflicts of the most radical sections of society and
especially the youth. The spirit of November will prove to be
inexhaustible, always remaining alive despite the long-term operation of
distortion and embezzlement by those who exploited the uprising to build
a mythical, blood-stained altar of democracy, as the ideological
foundation of post-political power. The Polytechnic will not be the
undisputed sanctified myth of power and democracy as its lackeys would
like, but a point of reference of a rebellion that sometimes breaks out
and sometimes simmers and that even today has not been suppressed. From
the student occupations of 1991, the major anti-war demonstrations of
2002-03, the student mobilizations of 2006-07, to the social and class
uprising of December '08 and the major mobilizations of 2010-12, the
initiatives of the '73 insurgents have been and continue to be timeless
demands that breathe continuously at the heart of the struggles.
In contrast to the distortion of the meanings of the Polytechnic
uprising by the lackeys of the state in order to build the ideological
foundation of the post-coup period about the "victory of democracy", the
very reality that refutes them stands up. The poverty and impoverishment
of the oppressed, the exclusion of large social groups from access to
basic social goods, the torture, beatings and arrests of the activists
have never stopped. On the contrary, we are faced with the constantly
escalating attack of the state and bosses on the large social majority,
in every social field, such as work, health, education. The
criminalization of labor mobilizations, union action and strikes, the
liberalization of layoffs, flexible working hours, the abolition of the
8-hour workday and the establishment of 6-day and 13-hour workdays, the
intensification of working conditions and the actual reduction of the
minimum wage are all parts of the anti-social and anti-worker
restructurings for the further exploitation and oppression of those from
below, the imposition of which requires the crushing of any social and
class resistance that manifests itself.
The implementation of a highly aggressive restructuring policy in all
social fields moves in parallel with the targeting and suppression of
social and class resistance. The repressive campaign has as its clear
goal the imposition of a regime of terrorism, a social condition
dominated by silence, fear and submission. This is proven by the rapid
increase in worker murders in the prisons of modern slavery, the
thousands of deaths from the criminal state management of the pandemic,
the victims of state capitalist crime in Tempi, the destruction and
plunder of nature and local societies, the daily murders of immigrants
and refugees at the borders of Europe Fortress, the murdered Roma by the
uniformed bastards of ELAS. This is proven by the vengeful dismissals of
teachers and professors and the repression with beatings, disciplinary
measures and prosecutions of those teachers who put a dent in the
antisocial state plans for Education, as well as the state terrorism
against students who demand the strengthening of public education, such
as the attack outside the Athens 1st Secondary Education School on
children, parents and teachers who were protesting against the mergers
of departments and the arrest of a 13-year-old student and his
detention. This is proven by the repression of student mobilizations
against educational restructuring and the intensification of
surveillance in schools, such as the arrests of NTUA architecture
students who occupied their school and their summons to a disciplinary
hearing, the sentencing to 14 months in prison without probation of the
anarchist student Z.M. for a slogan with spray paint in the context of
the intervention of the Anarchist Students Initiative of Athens in
solidarity with Palestine. This is proven by the attack on health
workers against the understaffing of the National Health System and the
arrests of union distributors of SVEDI in Ioannina. This is proven by
the attack on the anarchist-anti-authoritarian movement, such as the
evacuation of the Occupy of Evangelismos in Heraklion, Crete, which
returned to the hands of the movement, and the arrests of squatters and
activists, the fierce repressive attack on the demonstration in the
center of Athens for the anarchist activist Kyriakos Xymitiris and in
solidarity with the activists in custody for the Ampelokipi case, the
checks, beatings and arrests by the occupying police forces in Exarchia,
the fabricated indictments and the continuous persecution of anarchists.
This social transformation, the change in social consciousness, the
neutralization of social and class resistance are the prerequisites for
the deepening of the conditions of enforcement. State and capital
attempt to subdue every voice that is articulated against their
aggressive plans, either with riot police or by upgrading their legal
and institutional arsenal.
At the same time, the Greek state - fully tied to the Western chariot of
domination - provides its absolute support to the ongoing genocide
against the Palestinians, attempting to further develop its cooperative
relations with the state of Israel. A genocide that is taking place
before the eyes of the entire world and on the one hand results in the
murder of more than 67,000 Palestinians, thousands of missing people and
on the other hand the repression and persecution within the Western
metropolises of all those who fight for the ceasefire and the freedom of
Palestine, with a recent example being the murderous attack by riot
police and the arrests of activists at the October 7 demonstration
outside the Israeli embassy.
Against modern totalitarianism, let us once again put forward dignity,
resistance, solidarity. Against the devaluation of our lives,
impoverishment and oppression, against wars and nationalism, against
states and bosses that oppress our lives, let us intensify social and
class struggles. Let us all stand together on the path and struggles of
social resistance and class solidarity. Let us fight collectively and
from below against our oppressors, let us strengthen and protect the
social and class resistances that are the target of repression and
organize new ones. Without having illusions about the role of
institutions, without offering any consent in the management of our
lives, let us not take a single step back from what we have conquered
and that are constantly at stake, and let us make the spaces where we
work, study and live centers of resistance and struggle. Against war,
which is the only way to salvation for the state and capitalist system,
against the plan of mutual annihilation of the exploited and oppressed,
against nationalism, fascism and imperialism, the only hope is
internationalist solidarity among peoples, the organized counterattack
from below.
Taking up the thread of the struggles of the past on the anniversary of
the 1973 Polytechnic uprising - a rebellion whose meanings were never
defeated and never suppressed - we bring back to today the project of
rebellion against our oppressors, the project of Social Revolution. We
are inspired by the November struggle, which for 52 years has been not a
myth and a celebration of power but a point of reference for today's
social and class struggles, for the very struggle of the oppressed and
excluded for life and freedom. Against the apparent dominance of the
state and capital, repression, defeatism and acceptance of the state's
death policy, let us continue to struggle for life and freedom, for
Anarchy and libertarian communism. Only the total overthrow of the state
and capitalism, the social expropriation of the wealth that we ourselves
produce and that is being sucked away by a caste of rulers, and the
organization of the struggle for the Social Revolution can justify the
desires and real needs of the oppressed and exploited.
We defend the essential stakes of collective memory as a necessary
component of the struggle against oblivion, silence and subjugation, of
the struggle for social liberation. Of this memory that was born in the
courtyard of the Polytechnic in '73, that was stained with the blood of
Christos, Iakovos, Stamatina, Michalis, Christopher, Nikos, Alexandros,
Lambros, that did not fade away in the hellish decades of imprisonment
of anarchists and fighters, of this memory that today - in defiance of
the executioners and the devotees of the end of History - is pregnant
with the collective resistances and the inexhaustible forces hidden in
the struggles of the oppressed, of the memory that continues to resound:
