expresses its support against the authoritarian escalation of
criminalization and persecution of activists, organizations, and popular
movements in Santa Catarina. ---- On the morning of last Thursday, the
27th, the state headquarters of the Popular Unity for Socialism (UP)
party in Florianópolis, and the homes of some of its activists in Itajaí
and Navegantes, were brutally raided by police forces, including the
support of the Shock Battalion, on the orders of Governor Jorginho
Mello, a long-time ally of Bolsonaro. The action, with the clear
intention of intimidating and demobilizing leftist forces in the state,
shows once again the truculence of the right and the most violent and
anti-people face of the State, the bourgeois Justice system, and the police.

Doors were broken down, furniture overturned, and personal belongings
seized in a completely arbitrary process that is being conducted in
secrecy, without even the accusations being properly known. This hinders
the process of defense and resistance to an action that serves the
interests of the state's dominant classes, in an attempt to silence
social struggle.

The only information released so far indicates that the "justifications"
for such violence are a response to political demonstrations organized
by the UP and the Movement for Struggle in Neighborhoods, Villages and
Slums (MLB), demonstrations against hunger, the 6x1 work schedule, and
for housing. This makes it clear that popular organization and struggle
for better working and living conditions are combated as if they were
"crimes" by the dominant classes of Santa Catarina.
