February 10, 2026, 6:00 PM, Osnabrück University, Room 15/128, EW Building (Seminarstraße 20) ----The far right in Germany is growing stronger and more assertive. The AfD (Alternative for Germany) is gaining increasing support. However, right-wing statements and policies are not limited to the AfD; they are also practiced by the CDU (Christian Democratic Union) and the "center." The increasingly restrictive and openly racist policies against refugees and the attacks on recipients of basic income support are just two examples.
Largely unnoticed by the general public, the Turkish far right has also been active for decades. And this despite the fact that, with approximately 12,000 followers, it represents the second-largest far-right movement in Germany.
The event "The Grey Wolves - A Right-Wing Danger Under the Radar!" We want to ensure that the "Grey Wolves" (Ülkücü movement) no longer remain under the radar in Osnabrück.
Because the "Grey Wolves" are also active - and dangerous - in Osnabrück. Their ideology is deeply influenced by authoritarian, nationalist, racist, antisemitic, and homophobic elements. Equally striking is the conspiratorial thinking within Turkish right-wing extremism, which is accompanied by numerous constructions of enemy images, including those against Armenians, Jews, Kurds, and the West in general. In recent years, antisemitism related to Israel, in particular, has increased in relevance and intensity within Turkish right-wing extremism.
The "Grey Wolves" maintain venues disguised as "Turkish cultural associations." For a long time, their premises in Osnabrück were located on Meller Straße. They attempt to influence local politics and pose a real danger to all those they consider enemies!
Dr. In his lecture, Ismail Küpeli will examine the history, ideology, actors, and networks of the Turkish far right, while also presenting antifascist counter-strategies.
He is a political scientist specializing in nationalism, racism, and antisemitism in Germany and Turkey-both within the respective majority societies and within their respective minority groups. As coordinator of the "Dersim 1937/38" project at Ruhr University Bochum, he is responsible for investigating the extermination operations carried out by the Turkish military in the Dersim region. His doctoral dissertation on the Kurdish question in Turkey, completed at the University of Cologne, was published by transcript Verlag in June 2022. His doctoral studies were supported by a scholarship from the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation.
Following the lecture, there will be an opportunity for discussion and exchange. Come along and let's use this event together to prepare ourselves for the fight against Turkish right-wing extremism in Germany. Anti-racism and anti-fascism must be considered and implemented together - to achieve this, we need the necessary understanding, background knowledge, and the commitment of us all. This event can serve as a starting point for this.
