Dear friends,
The nightmare continues for children and families in Syria. But we have a small window of opportunity now. This week marks seven years of conflict in Syria. And as the international community is reckoning with this horrific anniversary, children are being killed in the streets of Eastern Ghouta, a suburb of Damascus. For people in Eastern Ghouta, the past few weeks have been some of the bloodiest — after being trapped in a siege for years. Wave after wave of bombs have been raining down on homes and schools. Hospitals are crumbling, and chemical weapons are falling from the sky. More than 1,000 people have been killed — many of them children. A pediatrician on the ground said, “The situation in Eastern Ghouta is worse than words can say... a shame to humanity.” Luc: We must act during this window of time when the media attention is focused again on Syria. We are urgently seeking funds to step up our advocacy to protect civilians. With your emergency donation, we will continue to document the horrific abuses — and you can help make our voice even stronger as we pressure the international community to stop this massacre. Faced with crises that are so large and so disastrous, it may often seem like there is little we can do to help. But we can make a difference for Syrian children and families. With your support today, we can succeed in helping the people under attack in Eastern Ghouta — at their greatest time of need. Together, we can help demand justice and save lives in Syria. Please give what you can today. Thank you, Margaret Huang Executive Director Amnesty International USA | ||||||
