Speaking on climate crisis and social movements is Seattle, WA based Black Rose/Rosa Negra
member Arthur Pye. Providing a survey of the depth of the crisis and various responses,
above all Pye stresses that ultimately building popular power outside of the constrains of
institutional forces is what will push the dramatic changes necessary. ---- By It's Going
Down ---- In this episode, we speak with a member of the Black Rose Anarchist Federation,
about the increasing threat of climate change, growing State repression against protest,
new activist formations such as Extinction Rebellion, and legislative proposals such as
the "Green New Deal." Is there hope in the State being able to legislate the climate
crisis away, or should humanity instead look towards building a material force through
social movements as a means of ensuring survival in the coming decades?
Throughout this conversation we ask:
How should autonomous anti-capitalists and anarchists approach new formations such as
Extinction Rebellion and the Climate Strike and push them in anti-capitalist,
anti-authoritarian, and direct action orientation?
How can this new wave of energy feed into existing front line land defense and
anti-pipeline struggles?
What should our stance be towards things like the Green New Deal?
How can we use the memory of struggles like Standing Rock to hammer home anti-statist,
anti-colonial, and anti-capitalist ideas?

The Libyan civil war is again in an explosive phase. Eight years after its first military
intervention, France spares its interests by a double game that does not spare civilians.
---- Since 4 April, the war has reignited in Libya: Libyan National Army (NLA) troops,
under the command of General Khalifa Haftar, besiege Tripoli, the capital of the country
and controlled by the official government, provoking more than 400 deaths and the
displacement of 60,000 people. To understand what is happening, we have to go back eight
years. ----- Since 2011 and the fall of Moamer Kadhafi, under the joint action of eight
months of revolt and a Western military intervention, Libya remains a fractured country. A
multitude of militias fight for control of the territory. At the same time, the political
tensions within the government resulting from the 2012 elections led to a civil war
situation in 2014 between two rival political entities, the General National Congress
(CGN) and the House of Representatives, residing respectively in Tripoli and Libya.
Tobruk, in the east of the country. The conflict had subsided after a UN arbitration in
2015 with the Skhirat agreements, establishing a Government of National Unity (GUN) in
Tripoli under the leadership of Fayez el-Sarraj, while preserving a heavy status quo of
threat.
France plays a double game
The GUN controls the country's official administration, including its foreign exchange
reserves, but remains a highly artificial entity, with government revenues being siphoned
off by the main Tripoli militia in return for their support. For its part, the strongman
of the east of the country, the self-proclaimed marshal Haftar, controls the main oil
production sites, and has seized most of the territory. It is also supported by powerful
regional sponsors, such as Moscow and Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates,
supporters of authoritarian restoration in Libya. Sarraj is supported by Turkey and Qatar,
reflecting the rivalry between these regional powers. Haftar, who had initially tried to
negotiate his entry into the capital,
France, which officially calls for appeasement, plays a dual role in fact: in 2016, the
DGSE sent agents on official service to Haftar while in parallel, soldiers of the French
special forces worked with GUN troops. This is reminiscent of the ambiguous stakes of
Operation Serval in Mali in 2013, in order to help the government of Bamako, a client of
France, then at bay: Haftar notably led offensives against a Chadian rebel group installed
south of Libya, which opposes the pro-French Chadian government of President Idriss Deby.
Paris, Europe and Russia are also looking for a partner in Libya to delegate further the
management of migratory flows ... no matter how brutal the method is.
Faced with the complex geopolitical confrontations between factions, at different scales,
currently being played out in Libya, the forces that can bring emancipatory and
revolutionary perspectives are struggling to emerge and be heard. We can only hope that
once the fury of the fighting has subsided, the workers' movement and the progressive
fringes of the Libyan population will be able to organize themselves accordingly.

In the speeches of the 29th "day of protest" of the "yellow vests" movement in France on
June 1, despite the heat and holidays, 24 thousand people, according to the organizers,
took part. The largest demonstrations took place in Toulouse, where a nationwide action
was scheduled, and Bordeaux. In Paris, one of the main demands of the demonstrators was
the reduction of electricity tariffs. Activists also continue the blockade actions. ----
In Toulouse, the demonstrators moved in the traditional route from Jean Jaures Boulevards
along Alsace-Lorraine Avenue. There were slogans: "Macron resigned," "Republic on the
march" tramples on the French, "" Macron and Le Pen - one fight. " At about 4.20 pm the
demonstrators were attacked by police using gas and water cannons. About 500 police and
gendarmes were mobilized to disperse the protesters. Fighting, the demonstrators retreated
in small groups towards the Matabio station. During the day, 7 people were detained by the
police.
In the Toulouse region, resistance continues in other localities. In Foix, dozens of
activists gathered in the Vilotte alleys and headed towards the Pesal roundabout in order
to occupy it, as in the first days of the protest. They did not block the movement, but
handed out flyers passing by. In Cahors, the "yellow vests" are located at the crossroads
of the Atrium to support the complaint of his comrade against the violence of the police.
In Villeneuve-sur-Lot (Department of Lo-et-Garonne), the "yellow vests" helped their
like-minded people from Bergerac. In Karmo (Department of Tarn) "vests" organized a
"festival of solidarity" - in support of their prisoners.
In Bordeaux, a demonstration involving several thousand people took place in the center of
the city. The march interrupted the work of the trams (although this was not planned in
advance), and many passengers had to get out of the cars and get to the goal differently.
The demonstrators returned to Pey Berlan Square (the neuralgic point of the collision at
the beginning of the movement), despite the fact that demonstrations were prohibited
there. The same happened with another forbidden zone - the Gambetta Square, which was also
used by the demonstrators. Shortly before 4 pm, "yellow vests" broke into the Grand Om
shopping center in the city center, organized a noisy protest action there, and then
continued the march through the city.
In Montpellier, "yellow jackets" were demonstrated together with the joint teachers. In
Paris, authorities again banned demonstrations on the Champs Elysées, and protesters
gathered at Dunfer-Rocherot Square. Anti-fascists from the Paris suburbs came out for a
demonstration, recalling the 18-year-old Clement Merique, killed by the extreme right in
June 2013. The next day, on June 2, in Paris, an additional march of "yellow vests"
against police violence took place. Among the demonstrators were those who were injured
during the dispersal of rallies. Protesters carried portraits of "yellow vests" injured
during demonstrations. The protesters called for a ban on the use of special weapons by
the police with rubber bullets and certain types of gas grenades, which can cause serious
injuries when detonating. Although the authorities do not allow demonstrations in the
center of Paris, the Champs Elysées are still almost empty on Saturdays: many tourists
avoid appearing there, many places are closing. The protest movement hurts the capitalist
pockets!
Performances were also held in Bergerac, Besançon, Brest, Valenciennes, Le Havre, Dijon,
Dunkirk, Givors, Kimper, Clermont-Ferrand, Lille, Lyon, Marseilles, Pau, Rouen,
Saint-Sovere, Thionville, Toulon, Tourville, Shaman, Epinal. ..
Road picketing acts are not limited to days at the end of the week. So, on May 30, the
"yellow vests" of Lisieux (Oge region) spent "a day of convergence of roundabouts". They
gathered at the end of Esperance, where they built a protest hut 2 weeks ago. Not
arranging the blockade of the movement, dozens of protesters handed out flyers to
motorists, showing that they were "always near." The action was followed by a picnic,
karaoke and discussion. Protesters gathered from Lisieux, Pont-Odmer, Bern, Brionne,
Livarot, Pont-de-l'Hequec and other points.
In La Rochelle on May 31 at 5.30 am, "yellow vests" suddenly cut off traffic to Betancourt
Avenue, in order to block the access to the Pallis oil storage tank. Formed huge traffic
jams. "We need to show ourselves," commented Marie, who came from Saint-Jean-d'Angely.
Dozens of protesters gathered from all the Charenta Seashore and even from Niort and
Cognac. During the day, most of the demonstrators went to work, but in the afternoon,
reinforcements arrived, including from Angouleme. The demonstrators were held in place on
the weekend, Ascension Day. Similar blockade actions already took place there in November.
From March 7, 2019, the "yellow vests" occupy a public area located 305 meters from the
Voyage roundabout, Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray (Seine-Maritime). Run off by the police every
week, they decided to build a stable camp nearby, on land belonging to the city of
Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvre (Seine-Maritime). Organized by the "yellow vests",
environmentalists joined Notre Dame de Palette. This place can become a "defended zone"
or, at least, a place of "struggle convergence" with the aim, in particular, to thwart the
construction of the eastern bypass of Rouen by 2030. The camp is organized right on the
highway, where the section of the new highway will pass.

The ACG recently received the following communication from the Greek Anarchist Federation
concerning state repression against members of the Rouvikonas (Rubicon) group. ----
Solidarity with Rouvikonas (group-member of Anarchist Federation - Greece) ---- STATEMENT
AGAINST REPRESSION OF RESISTANCE IN GREECE ---- After being identified following the
attack of the Parliament on May 21st - An action in support of Dimitris Koufontinas, a
comrade imprisoned for life on a hunger strike - two activists must collect 60,000 euros
before 14 June, otherwise they will spend until 10 years in jail.Links to the financial
support below. ---- The Prime Minister and Ministry of Justice are once and for all trying
to put away Giorgos Kalaïtzidis, co-founder of ROUVIKONAS and Niko, both members of the
same group and famous Greek resistance fighters. In fact, both are prosecuted not for a
civil offense, but this time for a crime. By utilising an old law on the protection of
historic monuments of great value - a law almost never used, intended for the likes of the
Acropolis or Delphi - the state has found a way to trap our comrades who until now were
always careful not to cross this legal boundary into committing
criminal offenses.
As a result, Giorgos and Nikos face 10-years in prison and are being asked to pay a
gigantic security deposit of 30,000 euros each (60,000 euros in total) by the 14th of
June2, that is, three weeks before the legislative elections. The will to use the law to
quickly to lock up several well-known members of the group and to offer a resounding media
show is clear. The hardening of the repression against the group (whose last sentence in
April amounted to 3,000 euros or ten times less) is one of the aspects of the state
manipulating public opinion right now. As a part of the European and local elections,
Tsipras,- the Greek Prime Minister - has just initiated early parliamentary elections and
will play his role on the 7th of July as an outsider facing the right. The right center of
the electoral spectrum hates Exarchaia (a district of Athens well known for art and
resistance), the Anarchists and other revolutionaries, and is preparing to enable
Mitsotakis -the leader of the right - to "evacuate Exarcheia in a month" and to "imprison
the red and black bandits"
For the past two months, Tsipras has been striking with all the horrors on the right and
flexing his position of authority: six refugee squats have been evacuated, the Exarcheia
district daily harassed by the police, a TV show about the district which announces its
near end, the political prisoner Koufontinas brutally deprived of his supervised exit
permits to see his son, and now members of Rouvikonas about to go to jail.
This attack on the resistance movement in Greece is probably the hardest since Tsipras
came to power. No group has resisted so much in recent years as Rouvikonas: daily, like an
elixir the against resignation that Tsipras is trying to provoke. Almost every day, we
have heard about Anarchy and resistance in the news and in the press. Almost every day,
more and more people said that nothing is finished. Because our solidarity is as
unbreakable as is our will to fight. We will stand and support our comrades everywhere, by
all means, as we struggle.
Support Giorgos, Nikos and all members of ROUVIKONAS!
Call for solidarity actions everywhere outside Greece! - as just happened two nights ago
in front of the Greek Embassy in Paris:
https://paris-luttes.info/contre-la-repression-rouvikonas-1 Please inform us for every
solidarity action in Anarchist Federation's mail: (anarchist-federation@riseup.net)
Call for financial support! If you are unable to donate, please share.
Even if we do not succeed in preventing the imprisonment of Giorgos and Nikos, other
members of the group will at least be able to escape other less severe sanctions and
continue the struggle.
1. To participate in the call for financial support (before June 14th), Le Pot Commun with

Wednesday, June 5 ACU Voorstraat 71 Utrecht ---- It is time to make Royal Dutch Shell
history! Let's go! ---- Program: ---- 18.30-19.30 Delicious Food & Drinks ---- 19.30-20.00
Shell Must Fall! Info talk ---- 20.00-21.00 Let's get started! ---- (The program will most
likely be in Dutch but whisper translation can be arranged.) ---- Due to the endless
efforts of countless dedicated people around the world, every year, the opposition to
Shell grows faster than their profits: ---- In what has been described as "an unmitigated
defeat for big oil", Shell abandoned its controversial drilling operations in the Arctic
in 2015 - thanks to Greenpeace International and other groups. ---- Currently Shell is
facing several historic lawsuits for its horrific crimes against humanity and nature
(#ogoni9 & Klimaatzaak).
Groninger Bodem Beweging and the people in Groningen who suffer the consequences of gas
extraction are standing up and were supported by a mass blockade of NAM/Shell
infrastructure organised by Code Rood last year.
Fossil Free Culture NL has succeeded in liberating several institutions from Shell
sponsorship.
Fossielvrij Onderwijs Den Haag defeated Shell in its home base, forcing the company to
move its greenwashing festival "Generation Discover" out of The Hague.
And just last month our comrades from Extinction Rebellion occupied and glued themselves
to the Shell headquarters in The Hague.
It seems to us like the time is ripe for an all-out offensive against Shell and for
climate justice. This is why we launched our Shell Must Fall action campaign to make the
2019 AGM the last one ever held in history and to dismantle Royal Dutch Shell.
-> JOIN US! We will organize this action, but also an international mobilization campaign
with info tours, action conferences and action trainings. We can only do this together and
different skills are needed! Do you want to take part in this adventure? Then come to our
first info talk to learn more about the upcoming plans and to get involved. The evening
will provide the space to get answers to your questions and to give you a chance to join
one of our working groups.<-
