of social protest in Kazakhstan, one of the most significant and brilliant since
the start of the new century, has become the height of the wave of strikes by oil
workers and other categories of workers in the country. , which hasn't stopped
since last summer.

Workers in Kazakhstan gradually recovered from the terrible massacre of
proletarians, organized in 2011 by the dictatorial regime of Nazarbayev, and
began to constantly seek higher wages and the possibility of forming unions and
other workers' associations.

The poverty of the majority of the population, the cruel exploitation of labor,
rising prices, daily oppression and the lack of rights made the position of the
workers unbearable and forced them to stand up to protest. The last straw was the
layoff of tens of thousands of oil workers in December 2021, the establishment of
a "health" dictatorship under the pretext of "fighting the pandemic" and a
drastic increase in gas prices.

On January 3, a general workers' strike began in the Mangistau region, which
quickly spread to other parts of the country. In the former capital of
Kazakhstan, Almaty, clashes erupted between demonstrators and repressive forces;
there are dozens if not hundreds of people killed and injured.

During the protests, disadvantaged people, mainly unemployed youth and internal
migrants, carried out acts of popular expropriation, destroying many large
shopping malls, stores and bank branches. In a number of cases, the troops
refused to open fire on the rebels.

The protest in the country is spontaneous and uncoordinated; therefore, its
participants put forward a variety of often contradictory slogans and demands.
We, as anarchists, above all support those among them who have a distinct and
unequivocal social orientation and clearly distinguish the strike and uprising in
Kazakhstan from the many electoral protests and political coups of recent years.

These demands were propagated during rallies of protest and social movements:
abolition of the rise in gas prices; 100% salary increase; cancellation of the
increase in the retirement age; take measures to combat unemployment; abolition
of compulsory vaccination against COVID-19, confinements and discriminatory
segregation measures, etc.

In order to end the social revolt and buy time, the frightened regime was forced
to make concessions: declare a drop in gas prices, freeze the prices of "socially
important" goods for 180 days, sack the government and remove the de facto
dictator from the post of head of the Security Council of Kazakhstan, billionaire
Nazarbayev. But none of it helped. Western oil companies have insisted that
President Tokayev restore capitalist order. The country's leaders have imposed a
state of emergency and curfews, banned rallies and strikes, and launched punitive
operations against protesters and rioters, spilling blood and arresting thousands
of people.

At the request of the Kazakh regime, troops from a number of countries of the
military-political bloc led by the Russian Federation have arrived in the country
to suppress social protests. These soldiers are called upon to fulfill the role
of policeman of world capital and to trample the flames of social rebellion to
prevent its example, its slogans and its demands from spreading to other
countries, from the spread of workers' strikes and the mass demonstrations
against the generalized "health" dictatorship and its asides.

We, Russian anarcho-syndicalists and anarchists, strongly condemn all repression
of the social protests of the workers of Kazakhstan and the shameful foreign
counter-revolutionary intervention carried out by the Kremlin.

We condemn all attempts by politicians of all stripes to use the social protest
of Kazakh workers to raise themselves to the top of power and grab the goods in
their favor.

We stand firmly, resolutely and without the slightest hesitation on the side of
the current social revolt in Kazakhstan and call on workers in Russia and around
the world to show concrete solidarity with it.
