The second half of January on the Polish-Belarusian border. The attention of themedia ended a long time ago, the authorities bombarded us with assurances aboutthe effectiveness of the border barrier. Of course, despite all this, people arestill trying to get to a place where they can be safe and lead a normal life. Nowall or violence from the services will stop them from doing so. Therefore, weare still in Podlasie and we carry out aid activities here. ---- Recent weekshave indeed seen a smaller number of attempts to cross the border, but sometimes,in the last 17 months, this number has fallen, only to suddenly soar again. Thereare fewer people, but they are still here. ---- Recently, we have received newsof more bodies found at the border. Last night we met three people in the forest- three young men from Sudan. When we found them, they were soaked, cold andhungry. At the moment, there is no frost in Podlasie, but the nights are cold andvery humid - such weather is even more burdensome than minus temperatures. Afterspending a few hours in the forest, even in good clothes, you are cold, moisturepenetrates through the layers of clothes. They had been in the forest for severaldays. It was very dark, we could barely see them. One of the men lay motionless. Histraveling companions called out to him, but he did not respond. The fear thataccompanies each of the people helping at the border flashed through our minds. We walked over and shook his arm. Once. Second. After a moment, of course, whatseemed like a long time to us, he opened his eyes. He spoke very quietly and itwas obvious that he was exhausted. He had a damaged knee - probably as a resultof a border barrier erected for millions of euros. Two of them were not yet adults. They've been trying for two months, been beaten and robbed, pushed back severaltimes. They had no contact with the outside world, both phones were damaged byPolish border guards - a well-known way of destroying charging sockets. Webandaged the knee, gave them warm soup and tea. We helped change into dryclothes. Their journey continues, they are still alive. Despite the fact that theborder guards did everything to deprive them of life and hope. There are still people in the forest. They will be there forever, until thecountries of the Global North change their policies and ensure the right of freemovement. The determination of people fleeing war and poverty is much strongerthan walls, sprained knees, frostbite and the risk of death. We cannot forget it. We can't pretend we don't see it.Talk about it, write about it. Support people and groups helping at the border.Let's demand this system change together. No Borders Teamhttps://federacja-anarchistyczna.pl/2023/01/20/co-tam-na-granicy-po-nowym-roku/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
