Almost 48% of those entitled to vote and residents of Catania did not go to vote
in the municipal elections. Compared to the municipal past (2018), people whoabstained increased by 1%. ---- This increase has been a cause for complaint onand off social media. But what exactly are we complaining about? ---- We live inan economically, socially and culturally impoverished local context whereevictions are a daily problem, we work or live from day to day and subsidies andincomes (NASPI, RdC, PdC etc) do not compensate for the expenses that must beincurred ( especially in an area where inflation is high).Over the years, the institutional parties have engaged in the electoral struggleor, better to say, in appearing in the city council. The game played by them wasmere representation and delegation, where they tried to juggle between the"beggar" who saw their job lost due to relocation and those who, as a company, attempted to enter and/or wanted defend one's position within the world ofnational and European procurement and funding (PON-FESR and/or PNRR).This desire to juggle between the two sides (beggar and company) within a systemof powers, objectively speaking, always benefits the part that has a largedisposable income. Political voting becomes a purely economic matter devoid ofits presumed ideological or civic meaning: whoever goes to vote does so to havean economic crumb (money or precarious work), political representation and/or apaved road for contracts, permits, orders and so on.The depoliticization thus created is useful to the system itself as it makes thatpart of the impoverished population accept fatalism and living from day to day. Thus economic entities such as:-the uncle from Australia (Ross Pelligra) who, bringing prestige to CalcioCatania, actively collaborates with his friends from the National Association ofBuilders in planning building speculations (at the same time twisting those "fourbeggars" who, with the faith as fans that distinguishes them, they go to supportthe local football team (at home, away and in training in Torre del Grifo and/orin Ragalna));- Confcommercio, Compagnia delle Opere and Sicindustria, engaged in territorialincentives for tourism, agri-food and the upgrading of logistics and roadinfrastructures (roads and port);they can thrive and further destroy the lives (physically and mentally) ofindividuals and further disrupt a heavily cemented territory.Depoliticization, as an integral part of the system of existing powers, must beovercome.Abstentionism, in this sense, will be an attack on the principle of authority anddelegation and, at the same time, will lay the foundations for the constructionof a collective autonomy totally different from the current model which isleading us to self-destruction.https://gruppoanarchicogalatea.noblogs.org/post/2023/05/29/oltre-il-fumo-delle-elezioni/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
