the fierce competition between the imperialist powers for control of the world
market. ---- The war in Ukraine unleashed by the aggression of Russian
imperialism, militarily strong but economically weak, confirms that the process
of redefining the areas of influence of the main capitalist and military powers
has matured, a process that inevitably takes place with war. ---- Russia and the
United States clash in the war in Ukraine in a conflict fought by proxy for the
control of the Eurasian market faced by China, a young, dynamic capitalism which
is also by now solidly moving towards an imperialist dimension, which inevitably
involves the arms race that already characterizes other powers such as Japan.
In Russia and Ukraine there are no two peoples who are fighting each other:
instead in the two countries a proletariat and a bourgeoisie continue to exist
and it is precisely the Russian and Ukrainian bourgeoisie and their states which,
having irreconcilable interests, are fighting each other on the battlefield
reaping civilian casualties and dragging the workers of their respective
countries to slaughter each other for interests not their own.
The one in Ukraine is a war that the European Union finds itself facing in a
condition of strategic inadequacy with respect to the needs of the escalation of
the clash between the main imperialist powers. Hence its weakness. Despite these
growing contradictions and its notable delays, Europe remains, albeit
potentially, an imperialist pole endowed as it is with considerable productive
and financial strength, with a single currency and with an enormous military
capacity: characteristics which make imperialism a European reality that
certainly cannot be underestimated, destined in any case to remain in play even
within NATO. On the other hand, in the context of the war in Ukraine, the UN is
also giving way to the protagonism of military alliances which, just like NATO,
stand at the service of the dominant US imperialism, as opposed to Russian and
Chinese imperialism and qualifying also in an anti-European function. Capitalism
seems willing to go all out, getting ever closer to a world war, with
unimaginable catastrophic consequences: for this reason the war in Ukraine must
stop immediately.
In any case, the first victim will be Ukraine, destined for decades to be
subjected to the protection of the victor, a protection which provides for the
repayment of war debts under the banner of poverty and the exploitation of the
proletariat of that country, forced to submit to the rules which will be imposed
on him by the new power relations that have matured in the imperialist clash
between the powers.
Not even the lower classes of the other capitalist countries will escape from
this situation, as they will pay the war debts imposed by their respective
bourgeoisies, intent on dividing up any war spoils.
The leaders of the major Western governments have repeatedly met with Zelenski,
the champion of democracies at the head of a corrupt government that has outlawed
opposition parties, introduced laws prohibiting strikes and giving free rein to
bosses (in short , just like in Russia...), assuring him full support until
victory. Western governments that fill their mouths with the words "freedom and
international law", hypocritically pretending not to see all the other wars and
occupations going on, as in Syria, in Yemen where Saudi planes bomb civilians, as
in Palestine where in fact the territories conquered by war are annexed by
Israel, without mentioning the many previous conflicts unleashed by the powers.
The immense destruction of the environment and of life itself; the hundreds of
thousands of human lives claimed on the battlefields and among the civilian
populations of the bombed cities; the exodus from war zones of huge masses of
desperate human beings which end up in massacres on the coasts of the
Mediterranean countries which reject them, are the dramatic consequences of
conscious choices by the main capitalist powers in conflict for the division of
the world.

We will not side with a flag or a nation because we know that wars are not fought
between aggressors and aggressors: wars are wanted by the capitalist bourgeoisies
and their state apparatuses for their interests of domination.
For us libertarian communists, internationalism is and remains the only antidote
to the barbarism of the capitalist system.
War overwhelms the opposition social movement, but does not destroy it. Gradually
the fanfare of the illusions transmitted by the propaganda of this or that
government and military commands loosens in Rome as in Moscow and in Kiev, in
Washington as in Berlin.

The capitalist system and its states are oriented towards accumulating profits by
increasing the harsh social reality of growing poverty, inequality and
unemployment, inflation and deprivation: all over the world war expenses are paid
by the lower classes in terms of increased exploitation of the workforce
especially female when in the world there are 2,800,000 fatal accidents at work
every year, precariousness and new inequalities, substantial cuts in wages,
essential social services and pensions. But the conflict between capital and
labor is also growing and asserting itself in the world: in France against the
pension reform as well as in England and Germany the mobilizations for contract
renewals are growing. In this crisis scenario, the opposition to war was born and
consolidated; it is growing in terms of desertion in Ukraine as in Russia;
throughout Europe the aversion to the wars of capitalism is taking shape in all
those local committees that are fighting against military installations, shooting
ranges, the destruction of the territory, the nefarious presence of militarism on
television and in schools: ferments are springing up everywhere of opposition to
militarism and the wars of the bosses.

Entrusting bourgeois parliaments and institutions with the functions and
perspectives of mass movements and trade union organization (albeit considering
the latter reformist, as is the union in capitalist society), means replacing the
dynamics of the clash between classes with the logic concertation which, with the
moderation of trade union demands and the conflict in the perspective of
compatibility with the capitalist system and the pursuit of the interests of the
respective imperialisms, divides the unity of our class and distances the
construction of a class awareness for the evolution of the international
proletariat "from class in itself to class for itself", towards the ambitious but
exciting internationalist perspective.

Working women and men have no interest in participating in the wars of capital,
however they are represented. Regarding the war in Ukraine and all wars we say
that we do not side with the warring parties and we support desertion.

We are fighting for the borders to be opened to allow fighters and people to
escape who do not want to die and do not want to fight a war that is not theirs.
Every woman and every man has the right to flee wars, pain, misery and the
dictatorships they impose.

We are therefore for the unconditional welcome of all human beings who flee their
countries devastated by the wars of capital to build a better and more just life.
They are sisters and brothers of our own class with whom to embark on a common
path of liberation from capitalism.

In these times of war, we express particular solidarity with all deserters and
those who rebel against militarism and military spending, in war zones and in the
countries in which we live. In Europe, borders must be open and we want our
networks of solidarity in support of desertion to be respected. Working men and
women do not need wars, class internationalism is once again the antidote to
militarism and nationalism.

Without overcoming capitalism, the logic of competition, profit and its
accumulation, there will be no possibility for human beings to take control of
their own lives for the construction of a society based on peace, freedom and
equality.

Against nationalism and Nazi-fascist regurgitations; against all forms of
authoritarianism, racism, patriarchy and intolerance, tools these have always
been used by the bourgeoisie when it comes to making workers pay the war bill, we
express our full support to deserters, opponents and those who claim right not to
participate in the imperialist slaughter.
