The use of depleted uranium and other war poisons is a brutal, endless,
painful topic that provokes anger and indignation. Beyond the news, thepolitical analysis, the battle for justice, in this topic - which manytalk about knowing little or nothing about - we find the life and deathof many people who compose and recompose their pain in a painful, dailymosaic and infinite. We must denounce what crimes the war industrycommits against man and human relations and continually remember thatthere are no just wars, to explain ourselves and what happens in ourlives, to talk about justice and solidarity. The so-callednon-conventional weapons are a systemic component of wars, of theso-called "international missions" in which Italy participates with menand impressive funding and which only serve to define unjust andcolonial international structures, to attack ordinary people, lands andfaces: it is a tragedy that takes place in territories near or far fromus, which suddenly begin to produce an atrocious and silent death. The military institution, with a human face - the rhetoric of "ourboys"!, the disgusting molasses of the famous phrase "Italians goodpeople" - cynically spreads its shadow over the earth like a sort ofimmovable Bastiani Fortress, impenetrable in covering up hypocrisies andlies, in protecting - whatever the cost - one's own inviolability, without caring about those who get sick and die a few meters away.It is uranium 238, the silent assassin responsible for this war crime inpeacetime: war pollution, which affects both those who fight on thebattlefield and those who live near the bombed territories or near thosebases where they experiment with weapons and detonate devices whichrelease this material at high temperatures. And this cruel death alsoaffects those who have never been to war and have never thought ofgoing: the shepherds who graze their flocks near the Salto di Quirrashooting range, who first saw malformed lambs being born and who thenbecame ill and they died, just like that, in a few months, withoutknowing why.The military bases opened their doors to all young people of militaryage, promising bread, status, careers, money to those who enlisted:instead those young people received illnesses and horrendous deathsbecause in those bases they were experimenting with so-calledunconventional weapons, ammunition that use depleted uranium to increasepenetration, weapons that carry contamination deep into the earth, intothe aquifers, for years and years and years. Contamination and death. The depleted uranium case is one of the most atrocious cases of silenceand clouding of individual consciences. Silence, social indifference,all-out protection of the intangibility of institutions. The oblivion oftime, the misdirections, the many useless commissions, the official liesand the numbers that don't add up, the indifference of those who knowand continue to defend the Institution in the obscene rhetoric thatsurrounds "our kids who are they sacrifice for their country."It is the daily and forgotten tragedy of a land that dies with itsfruits and its animals, of faces that disappear into oblivion: andperhaps poetry itself, more than narration, more than analysis, managesto address this theme. Perhaps poetry is the way to talk about thisdeath that arrives silently, without a name, without a reason - at leastapparently. Because there is someone who knows, or rather many, who areresponsible for what happens but are silent, silenced and criminal, sheltered behind their rubber wall. And this creeping death actually hasmany names: fulminant leukemia, Hodgkin's lymphoma, non-Hodgkin'slymphoma, tumors of all types. No one utters a word of solidarity and mercy for those who died ofleukemia, of lymphoma, for those malformed children, for the shepherdskilled in a few months by fulminant pathologies, in their expropriated, wounded, militarized land, without even knowing why.It is an atrocious case of laceration of the social fabric, it is awound of the very sense of belonging to humanity, which must beoverturned in memory and justice and finally truth for these peopleignored, killed, mocked by those same institutions that speak, withsaccharine rhetoric, of "necessary wars", which are not even wars, butsimply crimes.Science of generalsdeceived not to livean algorithmfrom the statetop of the defenseNotan enemy in uniformwith grades/colorsunequalon land or in the airwith weapons powergunpowderboys male soldiersready to fireto surviveand dropone after the otherother boysmale soldiersan invisible adversaryimaginedour enemyDoneof nanoparticlesof Hodgkin's lymph nodescaused by uraniumimpoverished bureaucraticcrazy cellsby mansuperior in uniformstarry with silveror gold.Riccardo MazzamutoRiccardo Mazzamuto, Homeland metal of deception U.I. 238 (dying inpeacetime), soon to be published in the poetry series of EreticaEdizioni, 2023.We thank the author for his kind permission to publish the unpublished text.Alternativa Libertaria/FdCA Il Cantiere #19 settembre 2023ilcantiere@autistici.org http://alternativalibertaria.fdca.it/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
