---- Z. Abdullah became politically active in the early 1970s, at a
young age, through the lines of the Popular Front for the Liberation of
Palestine, and later participated in the establishment of the Armed
Revolutionary Lebanese Faction. Until his arrest, he fought against the
Israeli state and the occupation regime it imposed on much of the
Palestinian territories and southern Lebanon. Already, after the Six-Day
War of 1967 and the Arab-Israeli War of 1973, Israel had extended its
rule over Palestinian land, and its growing expansiveness led to its
invasion of southern Lebanon initially and its advance a few years later
, in 1982, until the capital Beirut and the massacre of thousands of
Palestinians in Shabra and Shatila.
In this context and as actions against American and Israeli targets are
taking place in many European countries as part of the
internationalization of the struggle, Z. Abdullah will be arrested in
1984 in France accused of possessing false identity documents and will
be sentenced to 4 years in prison. During his detention, and under
pressure from American and Israeli authorities, he will be retried and
sentenced to life in prison for the execution of an American soldier and
an Israeli agent.
Throughout his long imprisonment he will maintain a consistent fighting
and fighting attitude participating in hunger strikes as a sign of
solidarity with the prisoners in the white cells of Turkey, Basque and
Palestinian political prisoners and will continue to speak out and fight
for the liberation of of Palestine from the Israeli occupation. Despite
the fact that he has been eligible for parole since 1999, all his
applications have been rejected by the French state which aligns with
the vindictive demand of the US and Israeli states that he remain
incarcerated because of his campaigning attitude all these years.
Abdullah's case is linked to the struggle of the Palestinian people, who
at great cost in human lives are resisting the blockade imposed on the
Gaza Strip - by land, air and sea - with the "security wall" built by
Israel and Israeli naval and air raids. Against the continuous
aggression of the Israeli state with murders, imprisonments and tortures
against the Palestinians, with the continuous expansion of the
settlements in the remaining Palestinian territories and the transfer of
the capital of Israel to Jerusalem, but also especially in the current
condition where the people of Palestine accepts the savage, brutal and
murderous attack of the State of Israel on a massive scale both in the
entire Gaza Strip with the bombing of houses, streets, hospitals,
schools, feeding, information and shelter infrastructure, with thousands
of dead including hundreds of children and with complete deprivation of
drinking water and supply of food and care materials as well as in the
West Bank with dismissals, with persecutions, beatings, murders of
dozens of Palestinians and pogroms, the Palestinian people continue to
fight hard and persistently for their survival, dignity and freedom with
his only allies are the competitors around the world.
On October 24, Z. Abdullah completes 39 years of imprisonment in the
prisons of the French state, which today, in front of the mass
demonstrations of solidarity with Palestine that take place in French
cities, represses those who are on the street, prohibits mobilizations
in support of the Palestinian people and criminalizes the its symbols.
Z. Abdullah is imprisoned because he fought with all his might in the
just struggle of the Palestinian people, because he stood against the
Israeli occupation and the crimes committed by the State of Israel and
its allies, because he continues to fight against exploitation and
oppression .
We stand in solidarity with all the fighters in every part of the world,
in the struggles of the oppressed for freedom, equality and dignity. And
we will not leave any fighter hostage in the hands of the state!
