For the 16th issue of the traveling review of investigation and social
criticism, the Z review team set up in the Seine Saint-Denis department
for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. ---- Through the body and its
challenges, the editors explore the upheavals that this mega-project
brings to the inhabitants of the 93. Urban restructuring, evictions,
strengthening of security measures, the Trojan horse of the Olympic
Games enters everyday life and continues its work of gentrification at a
forced march, particularly in the perspective of Greater Paris.
The journal also explores bodies in daily struggle: Undocumented workers
in struggle on construction sites, collectives of disabled people
attacking the ableist established order, transgender and transfeminist
sports groups, collectives against police violence, people in gender
minorities in football stands, the fight against fatphobia in a practice
where the "athletic" body is idealized. Reading all these articles,
short and accessible, we realize that the body is a central issue in the
fight against capitalism and patriarchy, in the latter's desire to
control and normalize them.
The issue also proposes a decentering of the grotesque project of the
Olympic Games in the French Alps in 2030 but also sport in Palestine,
both a breath of fresh air and a tool for emancipation for young people.
We will note an article outside the issue on the struggles of indigenous
peoples in Guyana which strangely resonates with the recent uprising in
Kanaky.
A layout that is still as neat and diversified formats of expression
(interviews, photos, comics) once again make this issue a great
collective success by a largely renewed team.
