WORLD WORLDWIDE RUSSIA - news journal UPDATE - (en) Russia, Avtonom: What 24 Has Brought Us: "Trends of Order and Chaos, " Episode 190 (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Hello, everyone! The year 2024 is coming to an end. A lot has happened

in these 12 months, both good and bad. All of this needs to be
understood and analyzed, because those who do not understand the past
have no future. So, in this final episode of "Trends" 2024, we decided
to collect four of the most popular episodes of this year to once again
refresh our memories of what happened, how it was, and what we think
about it all. ---- The episodes are fairly evenly distributed over time:
these are January, June, July, and December. There is also about
volunteering, and about the three faces of anarchy, and about collective
decentralized management of production, and about Russian propagandists,
and about whose conscience the victims of war are, and about the Assad
regime in Syria, which fell in two weeks, and about what we should do if
the Putin regime falls in the same way, and about the Kurdish
libertarian alternative in the same Syria.

Let's sum it up
It seems that New Year's Eve is a very good time to reflect on events in
the world and the role of anarchists or libertarian ideas in general in
them. Autonomous Action has been working all this year to inform you
about events organized by anarchists or important for anarchists. We
announced collections for political prisoners, reading groups, rallies,
marches, concerts, published author's columns, interviews and
translations. In the episodes of "Trends of Order and Chaos", the
participants of Autonomous Action and other authors gave anarchist
assessments of current events. Listen to us on YouTube, SoundCloud and
other platforms, visit our website avtonom.org, subscribe to our social
networks and e-mail newsletter.

We will be grateful if you support our work with donations, but we will
be even more glad if you decide to cooperate with us and join one of our
working groups. We do not want to be alienated hired workers on a
salary: collective action is important to us, where everyone is involved
in the final result.

Before diving into memories, it is important to mention what is
happening right now. The news from Russia in recent days looks like the
state is deliberately shooting itself in the foot.

Sometimes this shooting is literal: on the morning of December 25, a
passenger plane of an Azerbaijani airline was flying from Baku to
Grozny, with citizens of Azerbaijan, Russia and other countries on
board. But at that time, the Caucasus had air defense systems in
operation, since Ukrainian drones were attacking. And a Russian
anti-aircraft missile, apparently, hit the plane and seriously damaged
it (at least the entire body was riddled with holes from the striking
elements). The pilots tried to make an emergency landing at Aktau
Airport in Kazakhstan, but failed, and the plane actually exploded upon
landing. As a result, several dozen people from different countries
died, because the Russian air defense was unable to distinguish a
civilian airliner from military drones.

Of course, this immediately brings to mind the Malaysian airliner flight
MH17, which in 2014 was shot down over Donbass by Russian military
personnel using a Russian anti-aircraft missile from the Buk complex.
Well, that is, they very carefully pretended to be "Donbass partisans",
but partisans usually do not have Buks buried in their cellars. In any
case, this Boeing was also shot down by mistake, having been mistaken
for a Ukrainian military aircraft.

That is, the Russian government starts military adventures and
inevitably finds itself in situations where everyone around suffers -
not only those against whom they were supposedly fighting. In some ways,
this is reminiscent of a village alcoholic who, in a frenzy, destroys
everything around him, even without seeming to want to. Well, in the
case of the Azerbaijani plane, the desire of the Chechen security forces
to curry favor with their superiors and "definitely shoot down
everything that flies" clearly worked. So they shot it down. Those
foreign airlines that continued to fly to Russia after the start of a
full-scale war in 2022 are now suspending flights. It is understandable:
no one wants a missile to fly at your plane. And the alcoholic wonders -
what went wrong, why does no one want to be friends with me?

But shooting in the leg can also be, so to speak, metaphorical.
International sanctions imposed on Russia after February 2022 have
significantly complicated the export of oil and oil products: an
extremely important source of currency for Putin's economy. Therefore,
oil is transported on whatever and anyhow, ignoring any safety rules.
And then, at the end of December, two Russian tankers with oil sink in a
storm in the Kerch Strait. The tankers are old, not really designed for
transportation by sea, and even less so - in storm conditions. But the
money is needed, which means - screw it, we'll take the risk. They took
the risk, the tankers crash, the oil spills and pollutes the Russian
Black Sea coast near Anapa, approaching the protected Utrish. Since the
Kremlin does not like to admit mistakes, the catastrophe is hushed up in
every possible way, a federal emergency is declared only at the last
moment, and in general the state pretends that nothing special is
happening.  So, self-organized volunteers clean the fuel oil from the
beaches with virtually no help from the state, and these grassroots
initiatives also wash the birds clean of fuel oil.

This is the state shooting in the foot on New Year's Eve, and this is
the ordinary everyday heroism of caring people. So there is a spark of
hope, and it shines even through a thick layer of state fuel oil. Well,
now let's remember what else happened in this damned year. Reread these
episodes:

Let's start with January: "War and Peace", episode 141

Let's continue with June: "Individual, universal and class", episode 160

And now July: "Mother, is this really Siberia?", episode 167

And finally, December: "Overthrowing the authorities", episode 187

Happy New Year: join the polemics!

Well, these are the things that happened in 2024 in Russia and in the
world, and this is how anarchists reacted to them or participated in
them. I would like to finish with another rather amusing piece of news.
At the end of December, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the
Russian Federation issued a fatwa (religious directive) regulating
Islamic polygamy. That is, it was supposed that polygamy is a
self-evident thing, and it is only necessary to clarify the details a
little. We are not going to discuss polygamy and other patriarchal
practices in themselves now. What is important here is that according to
modern Russian laws, there can be no polygamy. Accordingly, the Russian
prosecutor's office, in response to the fatwa, issued a demand that,
they say, all this is illegal, stop it immediately.

Do you think that the Muslim patriarchs of Russia stood up to defend
religious traditions from the state? Of course not. They meekly saluted
and answered, literally, "it is God's will, and the Council of Ulema of
the Russian Spiritual Directorate of Muslims sees no point in entering
into polemics." And they withdrew the fatwa. Well, you get the idea, yes
- the voice of the prosecutor's office is apparently the voice of God
himself. Or at least the Prophet Muhammad. It is immediately clear who
is the boss.

And to all our listeners and readers in the new year, we want to wish
not to be like these patriarchs, to follow their convictions, to defend
them in every way, and not to confuse the state with "God's will." Human
freedom is more important than both. Question everything, enter into
polemics, unite with like-minded people, grow a new world in your hearts
and in the society around you. For your freedom and ours!
