An investigation has been launched after a man died at an immigration removal centre on Friday.
Disorder broke out at Morton Hall centre in Lincolnshire after the death and staff were forced to seek refuge. About 30 detainees are thought to be involved.
A Home Office spokesman said: "A disturbance involving a number of detainees is currently ongoing at Morton Hall IRC.
"Specially trained staff have been deployed to bring the situation to a safe conclusion. There are no reported injuries to staff or detainees relating to this incident."
According to the Lincolnshire Echo, fire engines and police vans were sent to the centre and staff withdrew to a "place of safety".
James Brokenshire, the immigration minister, said: "Our thoughts are with the family at this very sad time. Deaths in removal centres are rare but tragic events.
"We take our responsibilities towards detainees' health and welfare extremely seriously."
He said a full investigation into the man's death had been launched.
The Prison Officers' Association said extra prison staff in riot gear had been sent to the centre but that it had no further details.
Morton Hall, in the village of Swinderby, is run by the prison service on behalf of UK Border Agency.
It has 392 rooms spread across six residential units, and holds adult men.
