1938. Portuguese Salazarism background, Italian fascism and Spanish Civil War, we are
witnessing the shift from a journalist oozing conservatism of a passive life and encrusted
with active resistance to totalitarianism. ---- Tabucchi depicts the simple power of an
act of resistance to censorship despite the apparent insignificance of individual action,
almost switched to chance. Slowly, bit by bit, through small gestures and laxity of a
boss, innocuous words and new acquaintances, subtle politicizing Pereira says while it is
accomplished. He spends a deadly life and turned towards the past to interview new
horizons, eventually forced a headlong rush out of his country and its sticky habits. ----
Slowly Pereira blows claims, throbbing formula that is not content to be a title but
endlessly repeated at the discretion of the detailed description of trivial days of the
man who tells you end player and accomplice of the testimony that is closed with a
powerful urge to insurrection.
The characters are funny, poor, while anti-heroes they are in a scorching Lisbon and
powerful colors. To everyone, relatives or kilometers militant circles Pereira has a
banality so strong that it would be able to suggest the factual importance of the more
timid conformist, if he has the opportunity to consider it.
If it seems that shortly after its release in Italy in 1995, this book was brandished as a
real symbol of opposition in libertarian circles during the anti-Berlusconi
demonstrations, one can still easily be nourished in France 2016 marked by a state of
emergency and the shameless sacrifice human rights. While conformity is king, the old
fashioned revolt yesterday and today dangerous, this ode to micro-disobedience is to drag
all hands, including more cautious.
The suggestion will be smooth, with a pleasant and reading like a sunny and harmless novel
that finally makes it a masterpiece. Guaranteed Notes.

RSVP: http://goo.gl/forms/IIFYBHsqK0 ---- A two-day organiser training workshop, presented
by two comrades from the anarcho-syndicalist union the FAU (Berlin section). ---- When:
11am-5pm on Saturday 23 April and Saturday 30 April. Persons wishing to participate need
to be available for both dates. ---- Where: Activity Rooms 1 & 2, Kathleen Syme Library
and Community Centre (251 Faraday St, Carlton). ---- As many bosses increasingly emphasise
flexibility, adaptability and competition between workers as the values founding the
modern workplace environment, precarity and abuse of power has become rife. As workers,
many of us can easily identify the issues big and small within our workplaces which
negatively impact on our received wages, the amount of hours we are expected to spend in
our workplaces, our health and safety concerns and our right to be treated with dignity,
equality and respect whilst at work. If you are experiencing violations within any of
these aspects of your work life (or others) they do not have to be tolerated! There are
always steps that can be taken for workers to level the playing field once we are armed
with the right skills!
Anarchist Affinity is hosting Organiser Training 101 to help you build these skills. Based
on Australian, British (Solidarity Federation), and North American (Industrial Workers of
the World) experiences, the Organiser Training is an intensive, hands-on, two day workshop
where participants learn basic tools needed to successfully organise and operate their
workplaces democratically. OT 101 takes participants through the early development of an
organising campaign. Over the weekend you will learn what exactly it means to be
organised, why we do it, and techniques to carry out your own campaign.
FAU Berlin Foreigner’s Section comrades Madelaine and Carmen will take you through role
plays, group facilitated discussion, and interactive lectures.
Topics include: gathering contact information, approaching co-workers, and building an
organising committee relevant to workers who participate in workplace organising.
The training is for free and open to everyone who wishes to participate. We warmly
encourage people to attend who have had no prior union experience or organising/activist
experience. You don’t have to be working in an industry that is traditionally union-based,
as long you have co-workers (in whatever capacity) we can devise a strategy to get you
started! In fact if you know other colleagues in your workplace who want to see some
change, bring them too. We especially encourage attendance from workers who experience
disproportionate exploitation, including people of colour, first nation people, women,
LGBTI workers and workers with disability.
Basic snacks and refreshments will be provided on both days, there are a variety of places
to get lunch near the training venue.
If you are going to attend please send an RSVP to the Anarchist Affinity before 9 APRIL
with the following information:

Phone #:
Occupation (Industry):
Other notes (i.e. dietary requirements):
But seriously, RSVP because knowing who’s coming helps us plan.

Another state institution assassination took away the life of a worker in Greece of
mnimoniakon governments, poverty and austerity. Last victim of the war unleashed by the
state and capital in the world of Work, the 42 year-old cleaning worker, Thanasis
Kalogeris, father of two children. ---- The fatal accident happened Tuesday, March 22 at
noon, when the colleague was run over by a passing car at the time of garbage collection
in the Kolonos area. This is another murder, which comes as a result of lack of staff as

issue Personal Protective Equipment by most municipalities employees. ---- Let us not
forget that with the beginning of OAED programs for five months in the cleaning sector,
only the first week, there were also other accidents, one of which resulted in the death
of another colleague cleaning worker. Unfortunately, while the employee issue health and
safety is crucial, the employer treats it as a "cost" to be cut in favor of profits.
The recent decisions of the Supreme Court that recognize "co-liability 'of workers in

In Renewable Illusions, José Ardillo analyzes the use of energy by capitalism to impose
its domination. With abundant bibliographical sources and uncompromising style, he invites
us to reflect on issues of material abundance, technology, climate change, reappropriation
of the means of production. ---- The energy abundance is both a goal and a condition of
capitalist domination. It is a goal of its imperialist domination, as recalled by the
Ardillo depth analysis on " the oil era ", with its wars, coups, corruption and trade
agreements to ensure supply of West black gold. And it is a condition of social and
economic domination, to run industry, intensive agriculture, technology and services that
crush peoples and the planet on progressive ideology of background and material culture.
Maintain this abundant energy is a constant concern for the ruling classes, the risk of
collapse that ensures all their power. Which encourages them to imagine delirious
solutions , such as nuclear power and its old dream of unlimited energy, and to
appropriate environmental claims, including renewable energy, to serve their industrial
sauce and thus strengthen the order established. For Ardillo, energy is central to issues
of economics, politics and emancipation, which also leads him to question the positions of
revolutionary and environmental movements.
What energy for the revolution?
For the author, analysis of numerous novels, theoretical essays, policy proposals shows
that the vast majority of revolutionary (Marxist, Soviet anarchists) have remained, and
are still prisoners of the progressive ideology of capitalism and this dream of material
abundance . Technology and industry are generally considered emancipation factors, once
their property socialized.
Material production would ensure equality and freedom of individuals. But Ardillo, the
reflection on the energy needed to power the "ideal" society has been inadequate.
Electricity seemed to solve all our problems, but issues related to production,
distribution, storage, etc., were left out of the debate, leaving pretty lame society
projects. And increasingly, we see that abundance is incompatible with respect for
ecological balances. Hence the question that should now be the basis of our concerns:
"How not to depend on the collective freedom of material factors? ".
On the other side, Ardillo regret that ecology "political" was replaced with
environmentalism, which focuses on the management of nuisance and pollution, without
thinking about the issues of power and domination, and feeds capitalism in the end. For
example on climate change, calls for government action on the part of large associations
and NGOs serve as a pretext to green capitalism to deploy renewable energy in an
industrial and financial logic, while maintaining its domination system in place .
Ardillo therefore condemns the naivety of some environmentalists who believed and still
believe, that the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy necessarily lead to a
decentralization and redistribution of power, views the characteristics of renewable (more
local, less necessary transformation, smaller scale, etc.). As if capitalism would agree
to disappear just because the conditions change.
For the author, it is urgent to tackle the energy issue in its global economic, political,
ecological. And challenge this abundance culture in which we are locked, and that
necessarily generates a concentration of power. Because to produce and distribute this
energy we need, we can not pass a set of scientists, "experts", bureaucrats, soldiers who
ensure the proper functioning of a complex system.
Believe that we could keep the western comfort of the company's services, while removing
the device management and domination that makes holding, is illusory.
We regret to reading the book focus on the criticism, which leaves out many interesting
ideas and gives the book a certain heaviness pessimistic. A touch of optimism could be
made by raising the contributions of such libertarians as Kropotkin and Bookchin
environmentalists ideas, not only the limits of their thoughts on energy. But overall,
Renewable Illusions offer indispensable analysis to understand how energy issues shaping
our world and should be better taken into account in our revolutionary ideals.
