At the beginning of this year the RMT elected Andy Littlechild, a longstanding anarchist
and member of the Solidarity Federation (Solfed), to the RMT union's National Executive
Council as its London transport representative. ---- The role, which lasts for three
years, takes responsibility for the entire battlezone of London Underground including
trains, stations, engineers, all ancillary staff and contracted companies, along with
Transport for London, Docklands Light Railway, Black Cabs and even Boris Bikes. ---- Andy,
who's worked for many years as a Tube track worker and union rep, stood unopposed for the
position and was duly elected after receiving nominations from every RMT branch in the
constituency. His unopposed win was generally linked to Andy's perceived militancy and
non-sectarian approach to organising, which endeared him to RMT's London activist base and
gave him a clear run.
Being elected in this way is not without its downside as it meant there was no election
involving the members; and is equally controversial given a general trend of anarchist
disdain for full-time union positions, not least within SolFed itself, which bars
full-time union officers from membership.
Ed's note: SolFed, and other anarchist groups, see trade union bureaucracy as taking
agency out of the hands of workers and transferring it to people who are not at the site
of, or affected by, the struggle taking place. The full-timer's wages and community ties
are linked to a national-level body removed from direct struggle, and their role is
therefore based on what's best for the institution, rather than the workers.
(For more on SolFed and anarcho-syndicalist thinking, try Fighting For Ourselves online|book)
Whether Andy's decision to engage with the RMT's executive will be productive or not is
yet to be seen. The test will be in how and whether he manages to preserve his class-based
anarchist politics in practice against the relentless industrial and political warfare in
London, especially on the Tube where he has walked straight into the bitter, escalating
dispute and strike activity around staffing stations, as well as several smaller
skirmishes which are developing there as I write - and how Andy preserves his politics
likewise in his dealings within the hierarchy of the RMT.
One thing we can say is only the RMT would put a known anarchist in charge of London.
Edit: There is one other union which has elected an openly anarchist member to a major
position in recent times - Donnacha DeLong was president of the National Union of
Journalists from 2011-12 and still sits on its NEC.

The last three years in the facilities of the old airport of Greek immigrants are
imprisoned and children. The lack of health care, limited amounts of food and inhuman
treatment by anthropofylakes are just some of those experienced by encapsulated within the
concentration camp. Against the suffocating living conditions imposed by the state and
capital increasingly more immigrants moving into struggle and resistance movements. By
abstaining rations and hunger strike by refusing entry into the cells and the victorious
struggle of Sanaa Taleb, against the forcible deportation, proves that from the over
nothing obvious given and that to have even the minimum should claim them.
The Greek state with the voice of the Commander of the Detention Centre Immigrant Greek
answers with a vengeance in many choose the road of rupture and resistance and not that of
inertia, proceeding from September 2016 to ban visiting, further complicating creating
links of solidarity and match between / bis locals / ies and migrant and leading
inevitably to the marginalization of the latter. A move that is part of the broader
anti-immigrant policy of the state, which is fully aligned with the strategy of
transnational and supranational organizations (EU, NAT) West.
Neither bread and salt, nor sky and air. Only syrmatoplegmata.I civilized west once
displaced hundreds of thousands of people from their places now avenges them as to blame
themselves for their plight. The brutality was left somewhere back in history. Every day
here and around us. In the enlightened West, in our civilized world. That is why the
struggle for the Land and Freedom is as pertinent. And fortunately for us, and hit us, we
exist yet. And unfortunately for them, as they are born people spark social revolution
will remain always on. Our debt to the flared.
Unemployed camps, forced labor camps, concentration camps, extermination camps and death.
A brief look at the past is enough to understand that from the outset the creation of
enclosures designed to kill specific social groups. Social groups according to their
designs and interests of sovereign judged each time as a problem, as hostile as
unnecessary. In the 21st century the fenced places where lead hundreds violence refugees
and migrants / twisted to live in absolute misery and control conditions, power calls them
shelters.
The nationalized capitalist system has great imagination when you want to hide the
totalitarian face and takes various forms of state power in order to perpetuate. There is
no longer the sham democracy or democratic mask. The democracy of the 21st century, the
"People's Europe" democracy, democracy "Freedom America" is exactly that experienced by
millions of exploited and oppressed of the world. It is the democracy of the wars in the
region and the economic bleeding, hedges border the murders in the Mediterranean,
thousands of rapes in handling centers, hundreds of refugees and migrants camps. Is
democracy the introduction of the emergency procedure by the presence of military forces
in the cities of the West, conditions of slavery to work, the brutal repression of
movements, imposing misery throughout society, the complete subjection of the many to the
few privileged.
It is the modern totalitarianism that excludes and marginalizes whole social pieces from
the social field. Attempting to build awareness that there are people abound, they deserve
only the isolation and death. Imposed one inhuman routine within the immigrant / refugee
prisons twisted and parallel with the inhumane routine experiencing an increasing part of
local society. That fragmenting from below, suffusing racism, social cannibalism, which
spreads fear and insecurity. And in all these aims the sovereignty and all that is what
helps to seamlessly progresses its barbaric designs.
Faced with all this our only weapon solidarity. Solidarity makes visible those who wants
the domination invisible. Build strong communities where the power is trying to fragment.
Creates outlets where they are from above fly inaccessible fences.
Our only way match . The overthrow of the existing exploitative and oppressive system. By
hierarchically, unmediated, antithesmiki, politics, our social and class organization of
schools, colleges, workplaces, streets. To build a world where not human exploitation is
human. Where you live and we will not only fight to survive.
A world of equality, freedom, justice, solidarity.

In the year 501, it was the five hundred and fifth year after the "discovery of America,"
the start of long centuries of imperialism. Originally marked by massacres of Amerindians,
the colonization of the continent gave way to the imperialism of the United States, always
adorned with all the democratic and humanist virtues, but in reality much less brilliant.
This is what says and repeats the work of Noam Chomsky in the Year 501, or 1993 now
reissued by the Quebec publishing house Écosociété. The author, linguist of the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is also a libertarian communist claimed, a rare
thing in the American intelligentsia, and a historical defender of the imperialism of his
country and the mainstream media.
If the United States intervened throughout the twentieth century as well as since the
beginning of the twenty-first century in the four corners of the world, it was to block
the communist threat, preserve democracy, guarantee geopolitical "stablity" Among Western
leaders or the mass media, never seemed to see a contradiction with the perpetuation of
massacres or the keeping in power of bloodthirsty dictators.
The reissue of the book has all its meaning at a time when the United States is engaged,
as indeed many other Western countries, including France, on many external grounds today
against the peril Jihadist, but still with abundant bombardments. Even though
President-Elect Donald Trump had a less interventionist agenda than his Democratic
counterpart, this omnipresence of the United States on all continents is unlikely to stop
wherever necessary to protect the interests of the American ruling class.
It will of course be regrettable that this reissue is not updated, and therefore does not
take into account the post-September 11 situation and the profound transformation of the
world since the fall of the Soviet bloc, which was still fresh on the initial release Of
the work. Nevertheless, the mechanisms remain, the same recipes are applied by the leaders
of the first world power, and the reading of the book remains a walk, fascinating by the
erudition of the author, in the history of American imperialism .

sorry for sending you out this extra update today. Would be good to hear feedback on
whether you, our readers, would like these occasional last minute announcements or not.
---- Emergency Demonstration - no more deaths in detention! ---- TODAY - mon 16th Jan
4:30-6:30 ---- initially meet at unity centre (22 Ibrox Street, G51 1AQ) but if you arrive
later just come straight to home office 200 Brand St, G51 1DH ---- The third death in the
UK immigration detention estate in just over a month, another death has occurred at Morton
Hall detention centre. This time by suicide on Wednesday 11th January 2017. ---- Detainees
currently at Morton Hall report the man as ‘young and quiet, never causing any trouble'.
He spent his time watching TV, playing games and at the gym. They say the atmosphere at
the centre are ‘very low and people are sick and tired of the place'. Speaking to
ex-detainee friends of The Unity Centre the mood is also low, no one is surprised at yet
another death but anger levels are high as suicides and deaths within the detention
estates continue at what seems to be an increasing rate.
What has been reported to The Unity Centre by detainees held in Morton Hall is that it is
believed the man was found around 12noon Wednesday 11th January hanging in his room/cell.
We are yet unsure as to how he was found or by whom. At 12noon all detainees were locked
in their rooms in Morton Hall which is why this time of death is suspected.
The Home Office have been contacted by The Unity Centre for
confirmation of the event without comment.
The recently deceased was of Polish descent. The circumstances surrounding his suicide are
that he was refused bail on the 23rd of December 2016, whereby, the argument was used by
the Judge against granting bail because of the absence of a surety, his girlfriend, who
was heavily pregnant at the time. She could not travel to the bail hearing because she was
so close to her due date and Morton Hall is not an accessible place. Their baby was born
on the day of the suicide, it is believed he was aware of the birth before he took his
life, and that he had expressed enormous grief at not being allowed to see the birth of
his child, the decision to deny him this right taken by the Home Office. His friend had
also been removed from Morton Hall and the UK one day prior to this.
We have also been told that the individual had not committed any crime in the UK and that
he had sought medical help for his mental health conditions and been told to use the gym
facilities. He did this regularly.
One detainee while reflecting on Wednesday's event says it is the ‘mental conditions' of
the centre that put so much pressure on people in detention to take such drastic actions.
He said continuously thinking about things that are out of their hands is torture and that
detention centres like Morton Hall are ‘ticking time bombs'. For him he says he is trying
to be as strong as he can but how strong can he be?
One Unity Centre Volunteer recalls ‘Detainees are constantly comparing detention centres
to prisons, with prisons being given preference. Detainees in Harmondsworth, now Heathrow
Removal Centre, Colnbrook, Morton Hall and Yarlswood overwhelmingly report on the poor
levels of health care and mental health support. One detainee who has since been removed
after two years in Colnbrook said it was like a mental institution with everyone receiving
anti-depressents and other medications, he even said there was a trolly that was wheeled
around the centre each day handing such medications out. This cannot be the solution to
locking people up with no idea on whether they will be released, deported, or continue to
sit aimlessly in detention.'
While centres like Morton Hall exist, with indefinite periods of detention in place and
among the increasingly hostile environment manufactured towards migrants within the UK
preventable deaths will continue.
The Unity Centre will hold an emergency demo outside the Glasgow Home Office Reporting
Centre on Brand Street at 4:30pm on Monday 16th January 2017.
*Meet at The Unity Centre (22 Ibrox Street, G51 1AQ) at 4.30pm to go together to the Home
Office round the corner to demonstrate. Bring banners and placards and chants!*
**Please be aware there will most likely be police presence.**

The Barricade Inn was a squatted social centre in the centre of Dublin. During the peak
of its activity over the summer of 2015 hundreds of people were involved in putting on
events in the space that thousands of people attended. In this audio we talk to three WSM
members who were involved in opening up and running The Barricade about what happened
there and what lessons they drew from the experience. ---- Links to the materials
