Canada: Rescind Policy that Requires Turning Away Refugees

Dear friends,
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has posted selfies of himself with a Syrian refugee in Canada. He's said his country will take in refugees that US President Donald Trump has rejected. Now, it's up to Trudeau to prove his commitment to those words, because Trump has just closed US borders to refugees from around the world.
However, under the Canada-US "Safe Third Country Agreement" (STC), fleeing to Canada is very difficult. That's because, under this agreement, Canada must turn back refugees who arrive at the Canadian border via the US. Why? Because the US is considered a "Safe Third Country."
When Canadian activist Ryann M. learned this, she started a petition urging Prime Minister Trudeau to rescind the Safe Third Country Agreement immediately. Sign her petition and help save lives!
This rule still applies even if the US turns away en masse those seeking peace and refuge, even as part of sweeping discriminatory measures that have no relation to these refugees' personal backgrounds. It still applies even if those same refugees face deportation from the US back to their unsafe country of origin. The non-profit organization Council of Canadians says the STC "violates refugee rights established in Canada 20 years ago... including the right to an oral hearing before being denied entry."
Now that the US has become an uncertain option for those fleeing violence and death in their homelands, Canada is likely to see an increase in refugees seeking asylum via their southern neighbor. The STC could cause many frightened, desperate and completely innocent people to be turned away.
Countless lives are at stake. The Canadian government needs to hear from people all over the world to help convince them to change this outdated policy! Will you join Ryann and call on Trudeau to rescind the STC?
Thank you for all that you do,
 Miranda B.
