Dear friends,
Just now, the Ninth Circuit Court of appeals ruled against President Trump’s bigoted ban on Muslims and refugees.
While the ruling is a relief, the court battles will continue. So too will the turmoil and uncertainty that this inhumane ban is causing for thousands of families. We’ve had reports that some border patrol agents are still subjecting people entering the U.S. to discriminatory and unlawful treatment and we fear that the Trump Administration may find other ways to discriminate based on religion.
That’s why we’re taking our fight to the Department of Homeland Security, the court of public opinion, and Congress. Donate to support our efforts fighting the ban on multiple fronts. Any amount you give can help.
The Department of Homeland Security
We held a protest at the Department of Homeland Security, where we delivered a letter to the DHS Secretary outlining personal stories of people affected by the ban, and asking that DHS release full information on how the ban has been implemented.
In the Court of Public Opinion
The Muslim ban has sparked widespread protests around the country, with growing calls for Congress to step in and block President Trump’s order permanently. Amnesty International members have held protests around the country – in Washington, DC, New York City, Oakland, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Tallahassee, and other cities, as well as in other countries.
We are also researching cases of individuals whose lives have been torn apart or otherwise impacted by this ban so we can show the public the real consequences of hateful policies.
In Congress
Ultimately Congress must intervene to permanently block the ban. We are targeting Senators for six states who will most likely sway the results. We are generating calls and visits to their offices from activists in their states.
Your donation will support these key strategic initiatives. If you are fed up with the Trump Administration’s discriminatory policies, invest in our efforts to fight back.
Sincerely,
Margaret Huang
