In Fargues-Saint-Hilaire, in Gironde, the association La Rosalie de Fargues
protests against a project to build an educational center which would bedestructive both for the environment and for the quality of life of localresidents. ---- The community of municipalities of Fargues-Saint-Hilaire hasbought land to build a school center that would accommodate up to 1,500 people. The aim is to make 7 hectares constructible, including 4 in a wetland bordering atype II natural zone of ecological interest for fauna and flora (ZNIEFF). Manyprotected species reside there: reptiles, amphibians, birds, bats, plants andinsects (including probably rosalies). The current site of Fargues Saint HilaireFaced with this ecocide project, residents of Fargues have formed an association, taking their little local blue beetle as their symbol. The location, out of theway from the town center, would require daily car journeys, which could causepermanent pollution of the ecosystems and waterways below. Even though theprefecture has already validated the project, no valid study has been made, neither on the impact on biodiversity, nor on the risk of fire in the forest. Noimpact study either under the law on water, while the exploitation of thisresource is already surplus. The association considers the file dishonest : the presence of protected specieson the premises is totally denied, although recent photos of these species can befound on the department's site, the area of the project is variable and thefuture use of the site is greatly underestimated. This project would once againencumber the town centre, recently relieved by the construction of a diversion, once again exposing local residents to pollution and nuisances. An urbanism that runs counter to needsIn addition, the only access road to the site is narrow and winding. It has nosidewalk in places, and it is impossible to build a continuous path forpedestrians and cyclists. However, the file speaks of running 14 buses theremorning and evening. Unsurprisingly, no study has assessed the additional trafficflows generated or the number of parking spaces required. The construction project of the educational pole on the wetlandThe very real need for a new college in Entre-Deux-Mers has been known for atleast fifteen years, as the president of the community of municipalities admittedin an article dating from 2017. Time does not was therefore not lacking to choosea more suitable ground. However, the search for more ecological alternatives hasnot been seriously carried out. Indeed, the opinion of the prefect within theframework of the current public inquiry underlines the lightness of the study ofalternative sites. The regional environmental authority mission (MRAE) considers that the choice ofthis site is based on a land opportunity beyond any environmental consideration. In addition, the ecological compensation to which the department and the townhall will be required may cost even more than the purchase of another piece ofland. A project, even one of public utility, cannot do without ecologicalconsiderations. Education and ecology must go together.UCL Bordeaux Grouphttps://www.unioncommunistelibertaire.org/?A-Fargues-comme-ailleurs-Touche-pas-a-ma-zone-humide_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
