Lucio Caracciolo's point of view on the bridge over the Strait doesn't even try
to camouflage it. He spoke about it in a piece written for La Stampa lastDecember 7th. Just a year ago thegeopolitical magazine, whose editors have been permanently on national TVchannels since the outbreak of the war between Russia and Ukraine, had publisheda special issue on Sicily. "Italy without Sicily does not exist", this was theargument. For this reason Sicily cannot "drown" in the Mediterranean. And in thepiece published in La Stampa Caracciolo is explicit up to the caption. "If youdon't want to understand, Sicily is the Frontier and without the defense of theFrontier the States perish", he seems to say, because from the Strait of Sicily(as those of Limes call the Strait of Sicily to underline the small distance thatseparates the Island from Africa) passes the main migratory route, because theChinese silk road passes through there, because "the Turks and Russians of Wagnerare quartered on the African side of the Strait", because that stretch of sea iscrossed by the transcontinental submarine cables of the Net.Caracciolo reminds us that Sicily was the site of invasion at the end of theSecond World War. That time the invaders were the "American liberators" and wegot away with it, but who could be the new invader this time? This is why Italy(but at this point why not Europe or the West?) without Sicily does not exist.Because Sicily must be the military platform in the Mediterranean, the defense ofthe West from the armies of the Brutes or the Extranei. A No to the logic ofwar, to the militarization of the territories and the sea, to the armed wallserected between North and South.
