"It is important to remember that class society is not the creation of humanity
as a whole. In its most relentless form, it is the 'conquest' of that numericallysmall proportion of 'advanced peoples' who were largely confined to Europe. -- --"By far, the great mass of human beings who occupied the planet before the Age ofExploration developed their own alternatives to capitalism, even class society. We are by no means entitled to regard them as stagnant societies awaiting thegentle caress of 'civilization' and the carving of the crucifix. ---- "The factthat their social forms, technologies, cultural works and values have beendegraded to mere 'anthropologies' rather than stories in their own right is atestament to an intellectual atavism that sees everything but its own socialcreations as mere 'remnants' of its 'prehistory' and the 'archaeology' of its ownsocial development." The Ecology of Freedom - Murray BookchinThe original right to land, natural assets and way of life are fundamental. TheIndigenous Peoples were the true founders - in real and everyday practice - of asocial and libertarian ecology based on mutual aid, as recognized and observed bymilitant theorists such as Murray Bookchin, Ricardo Flores Magón and PiotrKropotkin. Throughout the American continent, complex and culturally diversesocieties flourished, in which cooperative and community relationships were builtand established, completely opposed to domination and hierarchy among human beings. To guarantee these ways of life, the Indigenous Peoples in Brazil have resistedfor over 500 years against European invasions and incursions of capitalism.Mining, agribusiness and, more recently, drug trafficking - almost always withthe endorsement and participation of the Brazilian State, especially through themilitary - are responsible for an incessant war that has led, not infrequently,to the extermination of many indigenous nations. The extermination of indigenous peoples does not only have dramatic consequencesfor them, but affects society as a whole; together with the exterminated lives, infinite knowledge is also exterminated and/or appropriated, ranging frommedicine to global and ecological care that could present solutions to theenvironmental problems generated by capitalism and its constant and inevitabledestruction of nature. We are now facing the horror imposed on the Yanomami. Although the bourgeoispress is giving great prominence to the case at this moment, it is not punctual. It has never ceased to occur, given that the concept of Progress propagated bythe Brazilian State - through its shift governments - has always beeninstrumentalized by the method of destruction of forests and their peoples;started with the European invasion, going through adaptations during thestructuring of the national State, improved with the military's vision ofprogress and, increasingly, brutalized by the interests of agribusiness and thepredatory mining sector.A brief history of the attacks on the YanomamiThe Yanomami are a complex and diverse group. They are not a group restricted toBrazilian territory, which raises in the imagination of the dominant classes, inparticular the Party in uniform and its bourgeois allies, the fear of the "threatto the borders".In the first decades of the 20th century, the Rondon project and the IndianProtection Service (SPI) made frequent contacts with the Yanomami. The objectivewas to associate the indigenous communities located on the borders with theso-called "national communion", a perspective of assimilation, which in the longterm would acculturate peoples, losing their specific ethnic identities. Thiscolonialist practice was the germ of the border policy of the militarydictatorship, whose violent action reached and murdered thousands of indigenouspeople. The Yanomami have always resisted this policy of assimilation and have fought fortheir autonomy, even though the region of their territory has a strong militarypresence. In the 1980s, with the depletion of the Serra Pelada mining, this region becameeven more targeted by the criminal rage of capitalist exploitation. Even in theperiod of re-democratization, mining advances in collusion with the José Sarneygovernment and its representative in the region: Romero Jucá. The now considered"democrat" (formerly a coup supporter) was president of Funai with intimaterelations with the mining.Despite some advances in the 1990s, with the withdrawal of garimpeiros and someoperations, mining, supported by local politicians, cyclically returned to itspredatory activity. Therefore, the attack on the Yanomami is a long-term problem touched by theBrazilian ruling classes, which reached its apex with the genocidal government ofBolsonaro and the military. The current situation of the YanomamiThere are hundreds of people affected, mostly children and the elderly, dyingfrom diseases that could be easily treated. Malnutrition affects almost all ofthe villagers and the images released by the media refer to the horrors of theNazi concentration camps. And this is exactly the disposition of the Bolsonaro government and of all thosewho were within this political composition. Like, for example, the Brazilianarmed forces, agribusiness entrepreneurs, leaders of neo-Pentecostal churches anda large part of the national bourgeoisie.Gradually, numerous evidences emerge that the entire policy of protectingindigenous peoples has been intentionally dismantled. The dismantling ranges fromthe denial of the supply of many medicines - including vaccines against Covid-19and malaria - to the distribution of drinking water. Policies aimed at foodsecurity, as well as the guarantee of beds for medical treatment, were alsoneglected. Among the evidence, the name of Damares Alves - former Minister ofWomen, Family and Human Rights and current Senator of the Republic, elected bythe Federal District - emerges as an important person responsible. In general, we believe that Capitalism and the State are largely responsible forthese constant crises. Only overcoming this economic and social organizationmodel, towards a new world in which exploitation and oppression are overcome, canguarantee freedom with self-determination of peoples and self-management ofnatural and social resources. The struggle from below, built through solidaritybetween the city, the countryside and the forest, must move towards theconstruction of an anti-capitalist, revolutionary and combative political forceagainst all forms of oppression.Immediately, in the short term, it is necessary that we move forward so thatthere are minimum guarantees of survival and self-determination of the originalpeoples. Measures to contain damage must be uncompromisingly demanded by allorganizations of the oppressed classes. There is an urgent need to advance onagendas such as the growth of demarcations and protection of indigenous lands;the destruction of the anti-indigenous agenda in the national congress such asthe PLs of Marco Temporal, Mining in Indigenous Lands, Poison, Land Grabbing, etc.; and, following the example of the Zapatista National Liberation Army(EZLN), the construction of material conditions for organized self-defense sothat indigenous peoples are not hostages to changes in the political situation. The self-management and self-organization of Peoples is not a dream of thefuture, but an immediate task to which we are all called. For the Self-Determination of Peoples! For the Social Revolution!LIBERTARY STROKE - Mato GrossoCOMPA (Coletivo Mineiro Popular Anarchista) - Minas GeraisOASL (Organização Anarchista Socialismo Libertario) - São PauloFARJ (Anarchist Federation of Rio de Janeiro)https://anarquismorj.wordpress.com/2023/01/31/combater-o-genocidio-capitalista-com-solidariedade-e-organizacao-entre-o-campo-a-cidade-e-a-floresta-solidariedade-aos-yanomami-e-a-todos-os-povos-originarios/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
