---- Anarchists have been part of Italian society for centuries, and on the basis
of this they can only highlight the many facets that only the plurality of ideas
and thoughts are best able to portray. Diversity, moreover, in every culture and
human history has always been a sign of enrichment, especially if held together
by ideas of equality and freedom, by participatory practices, open to all. The
anarchist movement moves in the light of the sun: the presence of libertarians
and anarchists is recorded within associations and voluntary work, the trade
union world, in all its expressions, and in the many places of self-managed
sociality. Defining all of this as "the anarchist galaxy" is incorrect as well as
offensive: we are workers,
nurses, students, teachers, unemployed men and women like all of you.

Those who know us know that we do not shy away from daily misadventures, from the
fear of an increasingly uncertain tomorrow, from the cold suffered in front of
the gates of a factory that wants to leave us at home without a job, or a
hospital reduced to inoperability in favor of private competition.

Anyone who knows us knows that we don't need conspiracies and attacks to affirm
our ideas, yet distancing is required, is requested and sought after, almost
suggested, which is the same attitude one has towards, for example , of those who
are Muslims when an attack by some fundamentalist takes place. Dividing into good
and bad, a modus facendi that legitimizes convictions and persecutions made by
popular acclaim and, in the denial, strengthens the stigma. This is the objective
of those who raise their voice today against Cospito and against all anarchists
equivalent to him, openly showing his political depth functional to exploitation,
parliamentary brawls and to make people forget the many electoral promises
already disregarded and the announced worsening of the living conditions for many
Italians.

In relation to Alfredo Cospito's hunger strike it is essential to frame the main
issues on which to focus attention in the drama of the story and in the
overlapping of news of all kinds. There are three aspects to consider: human,
legal and political. In the first case, all the solutions useful for saving a
human life must be sought. Whoever has the power to do it, do it, full stop. No
cause, none, is worth a person's life. And this is also said with a heavy heart
for the people who are dying in Ukraine and in the world due to war, unsafe jobs,
racism and more generally the ignorance that poverty generates.

Then there is a legal level that concerns Alfredo Cospito in relation to his
actions, his thoughts and his relationships. In this sense, a journalistic or
historical investigative work should be hoped for, the kind that were once in
fashion, which denounced persecution and strategies of tension, unbridled
justicialism towards someone and guaranteeism towards others. Without denying the
events that occurred, but in the awareness of living in the same country where
the terrible conditions of life and detention in the overcrowded Italian prisons
(nine thousand more prisoners than the places available) are unfortunately
underlined, for example, by the number of annual suicides (84 in 2022), and this
is the aspect of political denunciation that stands out in
these dramatic days, revealing how the town has gone back centuries.

Reducing anarchism to the Cospito affair is dishonest even before it is wrong.
And this must not exempt from the imperative, already mentioned, to do everything
to save a human life in grave danger. Everything to rethink this country starting
from the bad identity it wants to give itself in its persistence towards those in
prison, or towards those who are poor, sick, foreigners. Every action taken
against anarchists is an excellent indicator of what is achieved or can come to
anyone, single or collective, in the most vulgar and outspoken exercise of the
dominion of man over man.
