regular army against the Nazis. The Spanish anarchists were sorely lacking in

republic, various forces were the first to openly fight fascism. Since the

also supplied by Nazi Germany and neighboring fascist Italy. The countries, so to
speak, of the "Western democracies" advocated a "non-intervention policy" and
left the Spanish anti-fascists against a well-armed enemy. Officially, in order
