Hello,
When I was 22, my family tried to "cure" me of my trans, non-binary identity. They forced me to see various "healers" in hope that they could change me. But all they did was hurt me.
At that age, it seemed impossible to resist. There's only so much you can do. Today, we know these practices – commonly known as "conversion therapies" – are a harmful and dangerous hoax. And they're all too common here in India and in many other places across Asia and around the world.
But there's hope future generations will be spared this painful experience: The National Medical Commission of India has declared "conversion therapy" a "professional misconduct."
It's a first step, but we can't stop here. Help us fight these attempts to erase LGBT+ lives.
Sign now, to demand a ban on "conversion therapies" in India.
I'm speaking out because it's time that we take action to protect others from going through what I – and many others – were forced to go through. And I'm not alone in this fight.
ILGA Asia, an association of LGBT+ groups from all across Asia, together with All Out, have launched a large-scale campaign to stop "conversion therapies" in Asia.
In the coming weeks, more folks will bravely share their experiences with "conversion therapies" so we can dial up the pressure on governments across Asia to ban these dangerous practices.
Make a start today, by signing this petition to the Indian government.
Thanks for going All OutTashi Choedup (they/she)
