Actions are increasing against the project to build the largest private training
center for the American police in Atlanta, in the State of Georgia. Whether it israllies, demonstrations or the occupation of the Weelaunee forest to prevent itsdestruction during construction, the means of resistance are multiple. However, the fiercer the resistance, the more the repression increases, culminating in thepolice killing of Manuel "Tortuguita" Teran last January while participating inthe occupation. ---- This mega-police training center is a destructive projectthat will bring even more repression in a country plagued by the murders ofracialized people by the police, the prison industry and the militarization ofthe police. As the comrades of Defend The Atlanta Forest write in one of their pressreleases: "Replacing a forest with a police training center can only lead to anever more violently controlled society, a society in which the Taxpayers' moneyenriched arms and police companies rather than meeting social needs. Massincarceration and the militarization of the police have never reduced crime orimproved the living conditions of poor and working communities. In Atlanta and the United States, police budgets have always been funded at theexpense of everything else: health, food, child care, housing, public transit, free movement of people and economic stability for all. The concentration ofresources in the hands of the police is for the sole purpose of defending theextreme accumulation of wealth and power by big business and the very wealthy. What are the police doing with their increased budgets and the carte blanchegiven to them by politicians? They kill people every day. They incarcerate andtraumatize schoolchildren, parents, friends who are simply struggling to survive. We cannot be satisfied with a society organized around values of violence, racism, greed and indifference to life.»Atlanta, a city in the forestThis city in the southern United States has the highest canopy percentage of anylarge metropolitan area in America. In the Weelaunee Forest, located in southeastAtlanta, there are swamps that filter rainwater and prevent flooding. It is alsoone of the last breeding grounds for several amphibians living in this region andan important migration site for waders.Faced with the destruction of life to pave a police training center there, theopponents stepped up their resistance on March 5 by demonstrating to theconstruction site in order to set fire to police equipment. construction anddestroy what can be used to move forward with the project. Twenty people werearrested and charged with "internal terrorism". Despite everything, thedetermination is great and the megacentre will never be built!Link to Defend The Atlanta Forest WordPress, here.https://defendtheatlantaforest.org/Text on the assassination of Manuel Teran, here.http://ucl-saguenay.blogspot.com/2023/01/atlanta-etats-unis-manuel-teran.htmlAtlanta Solidarity Fund here.https://atlsolidarity.org/?fbclid=IwAR3KjHkLibpYzArHW7rlByFm_EFutotNPYu9LJFRIZXGujmOOVN6qZBzr9s#whyby Emma Goldman Collective[Atlanta]Stop Cop City: attaque incendiaire contre le mégacentre policier_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
