Strength to the families of the people who lost their lives in the train
collision---- In Tempe, the greatest tragedy so far was written, a result of thesale of public property under the pretext of crisis. The looting that has beengoing on continuously since 2010 has left dozens dead and injured today, victimsof the dominant ideology according to which the only thing that needs to beprotected like the apple of an eye is capitalist profit. ---- Responsibility lieswith all the governments that keep the OSE downgraded over time, preparing theground for its sale. All those who signed the obligation to privatize OSE as amemorandum obligation in 2010 are responsible. Christos Spirtzis, who in 2017sold OSE to Ferrovie Dello Stato Italiane S.p.A., is nominally responsible.instead of the ridiculous amount of 45 million euros, at the same time that theGreek state assumed the responsibility of subsidizing it with 50 million euros ayear to run specific routes. This vagabond then justified the sale by saying that"we sold TRAINOSE so that the Greek people don't have to pay a memorandum and ahalf".The tragedy in Tempe is not an accident that no one expected. A few hours beforethe head-on collision between the commercial train and the passenger train, anelectric power cable snapped and fell on a train carrying 450 passengers. Suchaccidents and breakdowns are a daily occurrence in recent years. All this whilethe government and the media often celebrate the supposed upgrades of the railwaynetwork and the supposedly modern trains with which the OSE is equipped. However,a report by Investigate Europe entitled "'All I can say is good luck': How Swissscrapped trains are returning to Greece" revealed on 18 February 2022 that thesecond-hand ETR 470 trains advertised as an upgrade of of Greek railways are infact extremely problematic and dangerous, acquiring the nickname "train ofdamage" 20 years ago in Switzerland, from which they were withdrawn in a bad way.Logically, we conclude that the aforementioned reports had more to do with paidcommercials than journalism.Railway workers have repeatedly complained through their trade unions aboutsafety deficiencies. This last announcement on February 7, 2023, where DESK ofRailways states: "We will not wait for the accident to come, to see them shedcrocodile tears making findings". At the same time Hatzidakis was celebratingthat TRAINOSE became profitable and the Minister of Transport K. Karamanlis wassaying on February 20 that "we are not playing with the safety of passengers ontrains". We saw it.The crocodile tears of politicians and company executives, the slogans of"national tragedy" and the attribution of blame to "human errors" should notmislead us. The workers had warned in all tones that the accident was coming.They are the ones who struggle every day to get the job done and ensure theintegrity of the crew and passengers with meager means. The minimum that needs tobe done today is the cancellation of the sale of the OSE and the substantialupgrading of the railway network based on safety and the perception of transportas a public good that cannot operate on the basis of profit. But that's notenough. We must act collectively and organized to put an end to the absurditycalled state and capitalism, to anti-socialism and the inhumanity of power.Organization and struggle for the social and class counterattack.
