To understand the structural violence of our continent it is necessary
to start from our history of violence, oppression and plunder, and alsofrom our long resistance. The arrival of the Spanish to our continent in1492 meant the beginning of the conquest and colonization. Based ongenocide and the worst atrocities, the Spanish colonial power promotedthe plundering and exploitation of the territories and indigenouspeoples. As a result of this major massacre, post-colonial nation-stateswere forged, the iron arm of global capitalism in our south.It has been more than 5 centuries since colonization and imperialism hastrampled on indigenous peoples and all oppressed people, subjecting usto the dispossession of territories, looting of common goods,destruction of the environment and repression from the State andparastatal entities.
