WORLD WORLDWIDE US USA - New York NY - New York City NYC - the city THE CITY - Mayor’s executive budget, co-op climate conversions, coyotes
Dear New Yorkers,
Mayor Eric Adams unveiled a $111.6 billion proposed budget yesterday — more than $2.2 billion higher than the preliminary plan he introduced in January, boosted in part by better-than-predicted tax revenues.
Adams said the balanced budget shows the resilience of the city amid the unexpected hits of the pandemic and migrant influx.
It restores some of the cuts made since last November, including to the 3-K and pre-K programs and to some cultural programs — but not the more than $58 million cut from the city’s three library systems. Most libraries across the five boroughs will continue to only be open five days a week.
The mayor’s proposal will have to be deliberated between his office and the City Council before they agree to a final budget — due by July 1.
Read more about the proposed financial blueprint here.
Thursday's Weather Rating: 7/10. Another very nice day, with lots of sunshine expected. It's quite chilly to start though, and a blustery northwest wind will keep things on the cooler side throughout the day. The vibes remain extremely all right!

The saga of a Brooklyn Heights building’s switching from oil to electric heat tells both a success story and a cautionary tale about what it takes to reinvent a century-old residence for a greener era. Thousands of other buildings in the city may need to consider similar renovations as the deadline draws closer to comply with new city climate rules, known as Local Law 97. Under that legislation, buildings of over 25,000 square feet must reduce their carbon output or face fines. Experts say converting fossil fuel-reliant buildings to electric is also key to meeting statewide climate goals.
