In five months, more than 30,000 people have been killed in Gaza, half
of them children. The terrible images that come to us, however, do not
seem to alert public opinion. We must stop the State of Israel in its
murderous madness, its colonial and apartheid regime. ---- In a
deafening silence from the West, a genocide is taking place in the Gaza
Strip. Anyone who does not know him well might expect a strong reaction
from the so-called "freedom and democracy camp". It is not so.
The images of Palestinian civilians killed as they rush, hungry, for
humanitarian packages should have awakened whatever little humanism
there might be left in our leaders. It is not so.
Those of the humanitarian trucks, blocked by radicalized Israeli
civilians without intervention from the authorities, who had to return
to Egypt because they were unable to pass, should have alerted
international opinion to the fascistization of Israeli society. This
should have challenged all those who claim to fight the extreme right.
It is not so.
Complicit imperialist countries
The images of Israeli soldiers posing in front of and proudly
brandishing Palestinian women's lingerie should have shocked anyone
claiming to be close to the women's cause. It is not so.
For the start of Ramadan, the "optimists" were still hoping for a
gesture. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant prefers threats and Islamophobia:
"The month of Ramadan can also be a month of jihad, and we say to
everyone: don't look for us. We are ready, don't make a mistake."
A truce, a ceasefire, it is nothing of the sort.
More than 30,000 deaths in mid-March according to low estimates. Women,
men, children, journalists, caregivers. For the Israeli government:
terrorists.
While the Israeli army is slowed down by the Palestinian resistance in
Khan Younes, while it finds itself overwhelmed because of all the fronts
on which it intends to defend itself, its murderous motivation does not
seem to be diminishing.
If we see the international community timidly calling for a slowdown, or
even truces, is this commensurate with the ongoing genocide? Of course not.
Instead, Western imperialist countries continue to trade arms with
Israel, admiring their bomb-proof technical prowess. They bargain for death.
These same countries, after a resolution from the International Court of
Justice asking Israel to protect humanitarian convoys, announced that
they were withdrawing their subsidies from UNRWA, the main humanitarian
agency linked to the UN.
What is at stake is not just a second Nakba, it is worse. Gazans are now
herded like cattle, waiting their turn at the slaughterhouse, in a
besieged Rafah and under bombs.
It is therefore indeed a genocide, and the French government is still
indeed complicit in it.
Boycott, pressure and union action
What is needed now is a popular reaction, an international awakening.
Once again, the leaders of this world have shown their contempt for
peace and justice.
It is therefore through boycotts, union action in areas where it makes
sense, and through political pressure that we must continue to mobilize.
It is no longer a question of discussing Hamas or the Palestinian
resistance, it is a question of supporting a people who are dying.
