The Comstock Act was passed in 1873, but has not been enforced for decades, leaving it in a limbo state as a "zombie law." It bans materials that are considered "obscene" through the postal mail — including supplies used for contraceptives or to produce an abortion.
Anti-abortion extremists have already made it clear that they intend to use the Comstock Act to ban mifepristone, a key drug used for at-home abortions. (It's even safer than using Aspirin, Tylenol, and other common low-risk, over-the-counter drugs!)
Right-wing leaders have stated that if Trump were to return to the Oval Office, they would pursue this plan to ban abortion pill distribution. For many pregnant people, especially in "red" states, this is the only way they have left to access safe reproductive healthcare options!
