For the second year in Italy, we celebrated Liberation Day under a
far-right government. ---- In all cities, mass demonstrations were held,called by the Associazione Nazionale Partigiani d'Italia with the
participation of unions, associations and political organizations of the
left. This year, the fact that there were so many people filling the
squares had even more meaning because the head of government Meloni
continues to refuse to recognize the value of anti-fascism in the
history of Italy and reveals herself more populist every day, inviting
voters to write on the ballot paper for the European elections simply
her first name, "Giorgia", declaring herself a woman and friend of the
people.
One hundred thousand antifascists, from Rome to Milan, took to the
streets to recall the partisan struggle against the Nazi-fascists and to
remind everyone that today it is necessary to build the Resistance
against the right and against the destruction of social and
environmental rights.
Thousands of Palestinian flags flew in solidarity with the Palestinian
people, victims of genocide at the hands of the colonialist and criminal
state of Israel. In Rome, other antifascist marches and initiatives took
place in the suburbs to take the resistance to where the social damage
caused by the Meloni government, and before that by the center-left, is
most serious.
The main demonstration ended at Porta San Paolo, the site of the battle
of the people of Rome against the Nazis on September 10, 1943, with the
speech of a 97-year-old partisan comrade who said that even today he
would be ready to take up arms again against the fascists.
The comrades of Alternativa Libertaria took to the streets their
revolutionary slogan "Long live the Resistance against capitalism",
calling for the political, social and union action of workers against
fascism, the exploitation of people and the environment by the
bourgeoisie. Resistance to fascism should not be manifested by an
institutional celebration completely separate from current resistances.
In memory of April 25, we want to remember the resistance of the
Palestinian and Kurdish people, that against military bases and the
expansion of militarism in society, against the production and trade of
arms, against all imperialist wars.
We want to remember the resistance of the young people who protest and
are beaten by the police, that of women fighting to defend their rights
in an increasingly macho and patriarchal society, that of workers who
fight against layoffs, for a decent salary, for safety in the workplace
and for a better quality of life.
But we also do not want to forget the Resistance directly linked to this
date, to those who fought and paid with their lives to oppose
Nazifascism, which has now been resurrected, because it is important to
preserve and transmit the memory.
Against all borders, because "our homeland is the whole world", for a
nature and humanity freed from capitalist exploitation in all its forms,
against racism and repression, against all political and state oppression.
In all circumstances, long live the Resistance to capitalism!
