It was in high school that I met Catherine Ribeiro, I listened to the
Who, Deep Purple, Ten Years After ... He was a comrade who lent me arecord: "The stupid rat and the field man" A group I had never heard of,
Catherine Ribeiro +Alpes. In love as in music there are love at first
sight. It was instantaneous. Everything was talking to me, touched me,
this powerful and captivating voice, these tender and raging texts, the
music of Alpes, and then this face ... ---- Subsequently, this discovery
brought me to open up to the French song. Later the punk wave won me,
then rap. But I listened again and again Catherine Ribeiro, a passion
never extinct. If Catherine Ribeiro was a great interpreter, it was
despite everything the period with Alpes that marked me the most and
fascinated me. This fusion, this harmony between his voice and the music
of Patrice Moullet, who made up the music of Alpes, had to give
something unique.
With high school friends, high school students of the "technique", we
rejected the social destiny that was ours, we embarrass all the causes,
strike and demonstrations on the first occasion. The voice of Catherine
Ribeiro married our daily lives, our desire to live as much as our malaise.
And there were concerts. The first in a suburban municipal theater.
Candles everywhere on the stage. As with a mass. And Catherine Ribeiro,
anger and tenderness, her arms on the cross, or the fist raised in front
of a captivated audience. I found it in Bobino, at the city theater, at
the Stadium with Joan Pau Verdier, at a feast of the Libertarian Front
newspaper, a support gala in Radio Libertaire or even in Bataclan.
If I think back to my high school years, my hopes, my anger, my revolt
had a face. That of Catherine Ribeiro.
