In today's era, with the repeated crises of the capitalist system, the
punctuality, the housing problem and the low wages-hunger are dailyproblems that plague the working class all over the world. Devaluing the
labor and living conditions of the working class is consistent with
capital's need to make a profit and shield its system. In these
contexts, imperialist rivalries for geostrategic control, energy
resources and military supremacy, the overall political and economic
competition between the ruling bourgeois classes, their associated
states and their allies/satellites are already throwing the oppressed
into the cauldron of war and are preparing new war slaughterhouses for
the international proletariat.
And while the "whirlwind" of imperialism is currently relentlessly
hitting Ukraine and the Middle East, with open war fronts and thousands
of dead, the war tension and military preparation is also expanding to
the Pacific Ocean, with a "theatre of developments" this time the
Philippines.
The Philippines is a country that has spent 3 centuries as a colony of
the Spanish Empire. It was then sold to the US for $20,000,000, then
came under the control of Japan after its invasion during World War II,
and was finally released and became independent in 1946. It is evident
that during all these periods of colonialism, wars but also dictatorship
the Filipino people faced multiple oppression from different regimes.
Even after the independence of the country, however, the influence of
the USA in the domestic political scene of the Philippines did not cease
to exist, as a result of which today they use it as a place for military
exercises and a point of exerting pressure on China and at the same time
trying to suppress the organization of the people.
In particular, recently the US-NATO, in the context of their desire to
strengthen their military presence in the Pacific Ocean region, after
provocative actions and a demonstration of military power against China
in the geographical island chain that surrounds China (Kuril Islands,
Japan , Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan, Northern and Western Philippines and
Borneo), have moved forward with a $500,000,000 Philippine financing
plan over the next 5 years. This amount is obviously not intended for
the financial support of the Filipino people who have suffered
incalculable destruction and death from the recent typhoon that hit the
region, but for the military preparation against China which is
escalating military tensions in the West Philippine Sea. One of the
consequences of this continued military aid is the escalation of the
already increased repression by the US-backed regime of President Marcos
against the people of the Philippines. An example of this repression is
the bombings in rural areas, in which the people are increasingly
organized into the NPA (New Peoples Army) guerrilla. The consequences of
these bombings significantly affect the inhabitants of the areas, as
most of the population are farmers, who already having to deal with the
severe drought, were also faced with bombs, others were forced to leave
their communities and their livelihoods have been exhausted . According
to a report by Ang Bayan, the human rights violations committed by the
US-Marcos regime in the Philippines are presented with 48,763 victims,
34 murders, 46 cases of physical violence, 30 kidnappings, 19 tortures,
449 coercions, 62 arrests and detentions, 15,396 cases of forced
evacuation and displacement and 6,889 cases of threats, pressure and
intimidation.
At the same time, large-scale military exercises are taking place in the
Philippines and in Hawaiian waters. The US-NATO exercises Balikatan 2024
and Cope Thunder that took place from April 22 to May 10 mobilized
11,000 troops to the Philippines. Another exercise that took place in
Hawaiian waters is RIMPAC 2024, which is the largest naval exercise in
the world and 29 countries participate. The presence of the soldiers in
the area resulted in an increase in violence against local women and
families. All this affects the permanent residents of these areas and
the following generations. These exercises also have the effect of
disrupting the lives of fishing communities and destroying the natural
environment of the areas, because they even include shipwrecks.
It is clear that the USA-NATO have a special interest in the countries
of East Asia, since they wish to create geographic chains of control and
isolation of China, but also possible use of them as military positions
for a potential conflict.
At the same time, however, that the US-NATO is strengthening its
military presence in the Philippines and the US-backed Marcos government
is increasing repression against the Filipino people, signing military
agreements with Japan to consolidate Japanese troops in the country and
welcoming open arms to US General Charles Branoon, responsible for
delivering bombs to Israel's genocide against the Palestinian people,
the Filipino people are increasingly organizing in the New People's
Front and standing with the people of Palestine.
The structural crisis of capitalism with its debilitating consequences
for the working class, the curtailment of rights and the devaluation of
labor, the extravagant military spending of states, the intensity of
repression and militarism, and the war conflicts themselves which are
limited for the time being at the regional level they sound the alarm
for those at the base of the social and economic pyramid. The
reconstruction of capital mandates the destruction of productive forces
and labor within the wider context of rivalries and conflicts for the
redistribution of economic and political power among the dominant
political and economic elites. The victims of the war conflicts that
break out to serve capitalist interests are none other than the
oppressed and exploited themselves, that is, ourselves and our class
brothers in other corners of the world.
We must therefore take action before the "fire outside our house"
reaches us. To organize the anti-war, internationalist, anti-imperialist
movement, which will promote the solidarity of the peoples in the
framework of class and internationalist solidarity, marching on the path
of the anti-state and anti-capitalist struggle, with the global social
revolution as its axis. The power of the working world derives from the
body of the same class family, from the only liberating source that is.
Pinning our hopes on dominant or emerging imperialist coalitions, while
it may seem comforting to some or an adventurous option to others,
ultimately leads to the pacification and degeneration of resistance
movements, i.e. to defeat. Despite this, we naturally recognize the
right of resistance of the oppressed and exploited, we support their
struggles against oppression and exploitation, fighting for the spread
of libertarian principles and the strengthening of the corresponding
trends within the international resistance movements. What is important
now is the mutual support of these movements and the coordination of
their actions to prevent military rivalries and military conflicts.
