Brown bears were once on the brink of extinction in Sweden. In fact, brown bears are listed as a "strictly protected species" in the EU. Luckily, they have been making a remarkable recovery over the past 100 years, thanks to conservation efforts. But the current hunting quotas threaten to undo this progress.
This mass killing is not only inhumane but also unnecessary. Other options for population management exist that are less cruel, more ethical, and more effective.
On top of that, the ways these bears are being killed is truly harrowing. Previously, it was illegal for hunters to use bait and dogs to lure wildlife in and tear them apart. Now, Sweden is allowing these sickening practices again — making the culling process an exercise in sadistic slaughter, rather than a managed wildlife conservation effort.
P.S. The survival of Sweden's brown bears depends on us. Let's stand up for these magnificent creatures and demand a more compassionate and effective approach to wildlife management. Sign the petition.
