Thousands of people take to the streets of the Spanish State in support
of the workers of La Suiza and the CNT ---- Thousands of people
demonstrated on July 18 in 18 cities in Spain to show their support for
the workers of the La Suiza bakery in Gijón and the National
Confederation of Labor. The demonstrations, which were held peacefully
and in unity on many occasions with other unions and organizations,
denounced the criminalization of union action and demanded the acquittal
of the six workers sentenced to prison for the demonstrations held in
front of the company's premises in 2017.
Multitudinous demonstrations throughout Spain
In Gijón, the starting point of the conflict, one of the largest
demonstrations took place, as well as in Barcelona where the
demonstration had the massive support of protesters and supporters of
different organizations. In other Asturian towns such as Llangréu,
demonstrations with great participation were also recorded.
The demonstrations were replicated in cities throughout Spain, such as
Lleida, Huesca, Logroño, León, Cuéllar, Valladolid, Santiago de
Compostela, Pontevedra, Iruña, Málaga, Ciudad Real, Burgos, Cáceres,
Segovia and Villaverde.
The demonstrations continue:
Today, July 19, new demonstrations are expected in Zaragoza, Teruel,
Jerez de la Frontera, Granada, Adra, Las Palmas and Salamanca. The round
of demonstrations will conclude on the 20th with a rally in Aranjuez.
A clear message:
Yesterday's demonstrations show the broad social rejection of the
conviction of the La Suiza workers and support for the fight for union
freedom. The demonstrations have served to make visible the
criminalization of union action and to demand that the judicial system
review the conviction.
