WORLD WORLDWIDE US USA - New York NY - New York City NYC - THE CITY - What if Mayor Eric Adams resigns?

Dear New Yorkers,

Pressure is growing on Mayor Eric Adams to part ways with administration officials caught in sweeping federal investigations. But his response to the ongoing federal probe of his longtime advisor Winnie Greco shows New York City’s mayor digging in and doubling down on trusted aides — despite warning signs of potential misconduct.

Greco was the mayor’s director of Asian affairs in February when her two Bronx homes were raided by the FBI. She was hired in that role — on a salary of $100,000 a year — on Adams’ second day in office in 2022.

She later received raises that doubled her salary. And she got the mayor’s blessings to return to City Hall in a new role after a leave of absence following the FBI raids.

Yet Greco also worked for Adams in his office as Brooklyn borough president starting in 2014 and for his 2021 mayoral campaign without any documented pay — with her financial disclosures with the city ethics board for 2021 perplexingly showing no income from any source whatsoever.

Her work with Adams, which included multiple trips with Adams to China during his years as borough president, is under increasing scrutiny at a time when federal prosecutors are investigating Chinese government influence in U.S. politics.

Weather scoop by New York Metro Weather

Wednesday's Weather Rating: 3/10. Our run of amazing weather had to end someday, and that day is today. Mostly cloudy with periods of showers, high temperatures in the mid 70s and uncomfortable dew points. The vibes are unsettled out there!

Our Other Top Stories

  • Last summer, the NYPD launched a drone surveillance program at city beaches that is supposed to keep an eye on sharks and help with rescues if people were drowning. Now, the city’s Department of Parks and Recreation — which employs the city’s beach lifeguards — is moving to take over the program by summer 2026
  • A dearth of green bond funding for New York City, first reported by THE CITY, has attracted scrutiny from a federal lawmaker. The Clean Water, Clean Air and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act allows the state to borrow $4.2 billion to pay for big environmental projects, but so far, New York City has received just under 2% of the money. This week, Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-The Bronx) sent a letter to the state that pushed for funding formulas that treat the city fairly, citing our reporting.

Things To Do

Here’s what’s going on around the city this week.

THE KICKER: Hundreds of rent-stabilized apartments were just added back to the city’s affordable housing market

Thanks, as always, for reading. Make it a great Wednesday.
