WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE FRANCE - news journal UPDATE - (en) France, CNT-AIT - Anarchosyndicalisme! #188: Elections come and go, problems remain... parliamentarianism is a tragic farce (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

The recent spectacle given on the occasion of the dissolution of

Parliament has once again highlighted what anarchists - and therefore
anarchosyndicalists - have been repeating for over 175 years: elections
come and go, problems remain. The bitter experience of Proudhon, elected
to the assembly of 1848, served as an initial vaccination: he realized
that Parliament, far from being an instrument to carry the word of
popular revolt, was in fact an instrument intended to stifle any attempt
to break with the established Order. Since then, each election has acted
as a booster shot for anarchists.

It must be said that recently, we have been particularly spoiled in this
area: it has been a permanent festival since the famous referendum of
2005 where the no won, but the government judged that the people had
voted badly... We can only admire the ingenuity of the servants of the
State, and of which Macron is only the avatar of the moment - in this
matter: they have the art of making and unmaking electoral rules, always
with the aim of keeping Power in the hands of the bourgeoisie and the
capitalists. The scandal of the situation in New Caledonia is another
flagrant example: to calm the legitimate aspirations for freedom of the
Kanaks, the State concluded a "deal" in 1988 with the political parties
representing the two island communities, which excluded a part of the
island's population from the sacrosanct "right to vote" - yet absolute
freedom according to our "parliamentary democrats". To paraphrase
Churchill, the State only believes in elections whose results it has
falsified.

This pact has brought political and therefore economic stability that
has benefited the entire New Caledonian bourgeoisie, whether Kanak or
Caldoche. But during this time, the situation of the poorest inhabitants
has only continued. They were then dangled the promise that national
independence would magically resolve social problems, which however have
their origin in the division into social classes. But the State,
changing its mind that given the demographic evolution of the island,
the result of the next elections might not be the one desired by the
local or metropolitan bourgeoisie, finally the rule was changed brutally
and without warning. The dreams of freedom and emancipation of the Kanas
were shattered on the barrier of parliamentarism and
"representativeness", which ultimately always results in the State using
and abusing the monopoly on violence that it enjoys.

But these electoral magic tricks are not a Franco-French specificity. On
the contrary, it is a widespread practice in all countries, and among
all types of political regimes. Thus, in recent months, we have had the
right to the presidential elections in Algeria which even the elected
president considered to have been rigged!!! The spectacle of the
elections in Russia was also brilliant: Putin re-elected with 89% of the
votes of 77% of voters... It is true that the deserters did not vote,
nor did the pacifists or anti-militarists who, like Azat Miftakhov, are
rotting in Siberian prisons and labor camps. We even saw Kim Jung Un,
the communist monarch of North Korea, go and place his little ballot in
a ballot box from which, as if by magic, there too, his party emerged
victorious with 99.9%! The upcoming presidential election in Tunisia
will not be left out: Kaïs Saïed is on the verge of becoming the new Bel
Ali, ruining the few gains of the Arab Spring that had blown a wind of
freedom across the world. The spectacle of the American elections also
promises to be "grandiose": while each side will confront each other
with shows and commercials on TV and social networks, burning hundreds
of millions of dollars in the election campaign, millions of Americans
will continue to die because of drug or firearms trafficking, and a
health system that is only accessible to the rich.

Certainly, if we return to France, political parties of all kinds are
feeling the wind of growing anger: all, without exception, say that they
have heard, that they have changed, that they are going to implement a
policy of rupture. All the parties that have exercised power for 80
years (from LFI to the Republicans, including the Greens, the Modem or
the Macronists) - and who therefore have an overwhelming responsibility
in the situation of general shipwreck - promise with their hand on their
heart: what they were not able to do yesterday, they will do tomorrow.
As for those who have never exercised power, the National Rally, they
swear that they will implement a different policy. In the meantime, they
did not wait to be in power to change their minds on a number of major
issues (exit from the EU and the Euro, nuclear power, etc.), thus
showing the confidence that can be placed in them... The only thing on
which we can trust the RN to keep its word is the application of a
policy that is even more xenophobic and anti-social than the one that is
already in force.

Faced with this distressing spectacle, it is not uncommon to hear
friends, relatives, colleagues wonder what is the point of going to
vote. Indeed, the question makes sense. But the answer should not be one
of resignation or worse, an aspiration to an authoritarian and police
political system. It is up to us, anarchists, to remind that if the
elections pass without changing anything about the problems, only a
social and libertarian revolution will allow a real break with the
system of money and the State. But this revolution that we are calling
for will not arise spontaneously. And it begins with a commitment
already on an individual level, that of refusing to participate in the
distressing spectacle of parliamentarism. Then on a collective level, to
regroup to organize autonomous popular resistance.
