Dear friends,   This summer, a heartbreaking mystery popped up in a town just west of Chicago when 54 abandoned dogs were discovered at a local dog park. The Maltese mixes were horribly neglected, soaking wet, and in need of veterinary care. These vulnerable pups were left to fend for themselves, desperately waiting for owners who would never return. Fortunately, they were rescued and taken to local shelters, where they received the care they desperately needed.   After months of investigation, the individuals responsible for this cruel abandonment were finally identified. Authorities discovered even more neglected animals in the couple's uninhabitable home. The two suspects now face nearly 100 counts of animal cruelty between them, a staggering number when considering the amount of animal victims. The trauma these dogs experienced will stay with them for life, and we must act to ensure other dogs never suffer the same fate.   We urge the Boone County Sheriff's Office to investigate the extent and motivations of these perpetrators' neglect, and recommend a lifetime ban on animal ownership as a part of their sentencing. Sign the petition to demand justice for these innocent dogs and to prevent future cruelty!
