In May 2024, the Freedom Initiative of Thessaloniki launched a Political
Education Cycle. Its organization was the result of a long process oftaking stock of the progress of the collective within its 12 years of
presence, which, among many other points, underlined and discussed the
importance of the political education of the fighters and the absence of
similar organized collective educational processes in the Greek
movement. Ideological, theoretical, historical and practical education.
For many years the movement ignored the need for political education or
shifted the responsibility of education to the individual. But education
is not a secondary issue and it is not an individual issue. Perhaps the
need to form a theoretical basis for our political action is often
overridden by a pragmatism, stemming from the rhythms of attacks on the
social base, but just as theory has no meaning without practice, so
practice has no meaning without theory. . And no collective body, just
like no individual, can construct a theoretical foundation without
coming into contact with the thinking of theorists, comrades/equals, and
movements that came before it. At the same time, education is necessary
for our Action itself, since if we do not learn what the movements that
preceded us did, what they achieved and what they failed, we cannot
distinguish the historicity of our movement and understand the dialectic
with our past that leads us to the future. Also, if the knowledge is not
shared with the effort and effort of the collective process itself, we
undoubtedly slip into informal, if very powerful and destructive,
hierarchies, since the individual comrades who have the theoretical or
practical knowledge are charged with a greater part of the decision
about the every issue. Finally, we must not forget that education is not
only a matter of gathering information and knowledge: it is a collective
process that changes each and every one of the participants, with
discussion, working groups, women's and men's conversations about
patriarchy, a work , that is, of everyone with himself/herself. Because
if what we say about this world is not in line with how we are as
people, no one will ever listen to us. Because the work of shaking off
our individualism, individualism, patriarchal stereotypes and entrenched
attitudes is the other half of the struggle we fight.
With all this in mind, from May until today we held a series of
educational meetings on the following topics:
* Theories about the state and the anarchist perspective on the state,
* Dialectical materialism,
* The anarchist perspective on the class question,
* Ecology,
* The rise of the state, capitalist system and Patriarchy,
* Patriarchy and women's liberation,
* Totalitarianism and fascism,
We also dealt with a series of practical issues such as:
* Creation of posters and propaganda material, through programs that
were freely distributed to everyone,
* Creation of banners
* Internet security & encryption workshop,
Each member undertook the presentation of at least one topic from the
above. Until today, the one Circle of Political Education was closed to
members of the collective and to specific comrades/equals.
Taking it a step further, we decided to continue with the last parts of
the Political Education Cycle, which will include the topics:
* The radical movements in Greece from the 1950s onwards,
* War and imperialism,
* Common and social goods,
* Contemporary radical movements internationally
We decided to make this cycle open, so that any partner who wishes can
attend it.
So we invite you all on Saturday, November 16 at 5:00 p.m., at the
Ovradera Social Center for the first meeting of this educational cycle
on "The radical movements in Greece in the 50s, 60s and 70s."
