The regional elections in Liguria saw the participation of a few close
friends, 45.9% of those entitled to vote, who divided their preferences
in half, reaching the sensational result that 22.6% of voters take
everything: we are in a "government of the minority". ---- The attitude
of the voters is a clear indication of a total distrust in politics that
derives from the awareness that the corruption affair is very complex
and that those who climbed the gangway of the yacht of the owner of the
port of Genoa were politicians of the right and the left, even if the
percentages with which they perceived the favors were probably
different, as the electoral result seems to demonstrate. Most voters
have decided to opt out of these waltzes, from patronal festivals
organized ad hoc to finance a candidate, from cycling races, as well as
from political rallies in the form of social dinners, to support this or
that among the interest holders, in the belief that the parties no
longer have any credible alternative to offer to the voter who actually
wants everything to change.
In this dramatic situation, some necessary considerations are inserted
regarding the inglorious end of a party, that of the 5 Star Movement,
with its president reduced to the role of guardian of the 5 stables
(empty because the oxen have escaped!) or perhaps four, given the
percentages of votes obtained by the party. Then there is the
psychodrama of a comedian, former founder of the party in question, who
does not give up and, faced with the degeneration of his creature, would
like to resort to euthanasia, forgetting that for this to be practiced,
those who are destined to die must choose to be suppressed.
Nor does the drama stop at the left-wing component of the political
spectrum because, beyond any personal consideration, the winning
candidate of the debate is notoriously terminally ill, with a life
expectancy lower than the duration of his mandate, clinging to power no
more and no less than Mastro Don Gesualdo was clinging to his stuff:
evidently the interests at stake must be many, to commit themselves to
the point of exhaustion, or perhaps we must find in this attitude to the
electoral competition, magnanimously, a sign of attachment to life and
civic commitment! On the other hand, it was unlikely that the result
would be different, given the scale of the interests at stake,
consisting of the construction and management of the profits deriving
from the construction of the breakwater, given the business that can be
done by dealing with the works for crossing Genoa, the "Gronda", but
also the underground one. It is said that the winner of the competition
is the most suitable, because he was able to manage the reconstruction
of the Morandi bridge, forgetting that this was only possible thanks to
the magnanimity and genius of Enzo Piano, who lent himself to making
available, almost immediately, a project for its construction. There are
rumors of a great relaunch of Genoa as a port hub, omitting to mention
the total cancellation of Ligurian industry and the reduction of the
region to a provider of tourist services, allowing, on the sidelines of
the developments for luxury tourism, small and medium-sized hotel
businesses, which feed a widespread and clientelist residual economy of
services, while the populations of the valleys that lead to the sea,
inhabited by increasingly poor populations, are reduced to begging for
hard-to-find work and to being slaves of local potentates and
clienteles, to whom they are forced to offer their vote. The current
social situation of the populations who live in the province of Imperia
is significant and emblematic in this regard and particularly
significant, but there was no trace of its problems in the electoral
campaign in this regard. If the parties of the left want to take back
control of Liguria they cannot rediscover its existence on the eve of
the elections or in the face of a scandal on the buying and selling of
votes and the financing of the electoral campaign. They must develop a
project for the relaunch of the Region that cannot limit itself to
promising to solve the problems of health (even if this would already be
a lot), but must set as its first objective its rebirth and its
reindustrialization, through careful and wise planning of the territory,
even internally, that knows how to combine the policy of hospitality,
aimed at regenerating its population, the valorization of the territory,
the establishment of productive activities linked to the new economy of
the sea and the rediscovery of ancient Ligurian knowledge.
